Info reqstd: Replacement Win.76 barrel
Hello - Several here have been around the block longer than me and may be able to answer : Eliminating Original barrels, sleeved old barrels and 'diminished the value' answers from the conversation; Could folks please call out a few companies/shops that make or supply barrels for 19thC. Winchesters(Primarily- or even early Marlin models on occasion) - ie: Win.M1873 rifle/carbine; M1876, M1886, M1892, etc. Not a generic Green Mountain blank, but those made for specific models/calibers, threaded, dovetailed, lettered, almost ready to just *bolt in* except for final fitting and finish. Also, what those companies typically charge and for what. I've seen the occasional re-pops via {elsewhere}, ebay, etc. - I just never know where they came from - I have a few projects that I want to re-barrel (with no immediate time frame in mind) and would rather work with the actual maker if at all possible. I would say More then likely there are many more Barrel MAKERS that Furnish Barrel Blanks then Finished threaded and chambered for a Specific Make and model of rifle. I think you need to find a GUN SMITH that specializes in work on old Winchesters. Doug Turnbull will do what you want and make entire Rifle look NEW but his work is BIG $$$ 0 -

Numrich now Gunparts used to make Win'92 barrels in 357 and 44 Mag.

Hello Hawk - Thank you for the pointer, I'll keep that place in mind as a last resort. Earlier this year I bought a new-made Win. 1886 barrel for one of my projects off ebay, all correct stampings/dovetails/etc.etc./perfect fit with 1% work fitting it exact for under $500. That same fella (out of Florida) has sold several on ebay and I even found him on GunAuction - I just haven't found (yet) what I need for a 1876/.45-60/round barrel 28". No rush- Plenty of side project guns I work on (my own collection) I just figured there are several folks out there that make them that some of you may know and a Google search refuses to produce (like.. I'd NEVER have found Ron's Gun Shop through a regular search).0 -

Hello V35, thanks for the info - I have checked Numrich and other big label boys, but they seem to stock the newer parts, perhaps for those Italian remakes with the foreign stamping/proofs(and their barrels are rarely in stock as well). Turnbull does nice work, but is generally more expensive that the average individual might spend. Though I may use them sometime to reroll an address on a .44-40 carbine barrel I have, unless I find a person who I can stick with to take care of the several barrels I will eventually need.
