Ruger Preservative removal
I bought my first new pistol in a long time yesterday, a Ruger Mk IV stainless. There is a sticky preservative on it, especially the magazines. Can anyone recommend the best way to remove it ? Thanks!

I suspect any good solvent will cut just fine. Take it apart, wipe with dampen cloth, or scrub with a wet brush. I like Shooter's Choice. All my stainless stuff gets lubed with Rig Stainless + grease to help prevent galling. I would also suggest while its apart to LIGHTLY stone the working surfaces to remove the burrs.
Check the inside of the magazines and do the follower edges too.0 -
Gibbs. Cleans, lubricates, protects, and removes nasty gunk. 0 -
I have found that brake cleaner works well, you just have to be sure to apply a fresh coat of lube as it leaves the metal dry. 0 -
Use something mild like WD40 to wipe it down first and see if that works. 0 -
Bore Tech Eliminator is my go to. Then CLP for lube. 0 -
I use a good solvent, or brake cleaner, then head straight for the G-96 0
