M-1 Carbine hold open pin issue

I have a M-1 Carbine Op rod that the hold open pin is very hard to move up and down, unclear the best method to correct this. I am sure it can be removed but don't know the procedure?

  Just be aware, there are 3 different types of hold open pin, & even the last revision (type 3) doesn't work reliably. The War Dept was never concerned about this, the hold open is never really needed. Just don't fool around in the chamber with either your fingers or a live round when the hold open is engaged.
