RUGER 44 CARBINE
I have a chance to get a ruger 44 carbine on a trade with a serial #5740 I have not seen the gun yet but I'm wondering how much would this gun be worth as I don't need it and would probably sell it and what I trading for it is worth $550 in elctronics that the other party wants.
thanks for any help you guys can give

Haven't seen one in a long time. I'd be looking at the bolt release and it's spring. Lifter latch and lifter dog in Ruger Speak0 -
I had trouble with the bolt stuck open and locked up too. If I remember correctly, the receiver is a machined one piece from a steel block/millet? and there is a separate piece in the receiver top called the bolt guide. This tends to loosen up and cause the bolt to stick or not fully function. Disassemble the rifle and remove and clean this part and where it is screwed into the receiver, clean the screw threads and holes with acetone on a Q-tip. Then use lock-tite and screw this piece into place and leave over-night, and then lubricate the bolt and bolt guide. That worked for me. The main problem I had after that was I never felt the rifle cycled the same or fully returned to battery after each shot - sometimes you would get an erratic flyer or two in a five shot group. 0
