marlin 336 rc
i have a marlin 336RC made in 1960-61, straight stock. i would like to add a saddle ring. is this doable without making modifications to the receiver such as drilling and taping. thanks.

No. It would have to be drilled and tapped. 0 -
So looking at one for sale on the auction side I see 2 screws on the left side of the receiver. One looks like the lever pivot, not sure what the one above it does. I think you could make a new longer screw that shoulders in the same place on the receiver. Have about 1/4" more of shank then a larger slotted head. Take piece of brass or stainless steel flat strap and fold it around a ring. Drill the shank hole in the tabs and space it off the action with a washer. I'd thread lock the screw in place to keep it form working loose. No new holes in your gun. Might cause a wear ring in the finish - depends on the spacing and if its tight or allowed to rotate.

no pictures to look at yours but a lot of the earlier guns were drilled and tapped for receiver sights so if you have one that was you could use one of those holes to mount the ring. 0 -

after looking at the kits and pictures of actual SRC's i agree, it would have to be drilled and tapped. well thats just not going to happen to this fine old rifle. maybe one day i'll find a real one i'd be willing to buy. thanks all. 0
