What is the difference between a.........
Remington 1100 and a Remington 1187??
I have always thought that they were the same except the 1100 was finished nicer. Am I right or wrong?? Thanks!

I have both. Then what is exactly the difference? 0 -
The 11-87 has a metering gas system. A rather simple device using a steel ball tensioned by a spring steel sleeve at the front of the barrel lug.
It is set up so that a metered amount of gas for lower power shells keeps the ball seated in a second gas port. If heavier loads are used the pressure moves the ball away from the second gas port opening allowing some of the gas to bleed off. This allows both light and heavy loads to function the gun.
The 1100 has a fixed size gas port unobstructed which handles a smaller range of loads. For magnum loads the 1100 has a barrel with a single gas port. For the non magnum gun they have a dual gas port.0
