Short barreled shotguns

I am starting to see a lot of new shotguns advertised with 13" and 14" barrels with pistol grip stocks and was wondering how they are getting around the feds with their 18 1/2" shotgun barrel rules and overall length rules. As always any info is appreciated.

    A loophole allows them to be classified as pistols - like the ar short bbl carbines with stabilizer butt stocks like protrusions

    The batfe has ruled they are pistols - in a narrow definable scope

    My understanding is that they are just classified as a firearm. Because the barrel is less than 18" it isn't classified as a shotgun, because it doesn't have a stock it isn't a short-barreled shotgun and since it's more than 26" long it isn't an AOW.

    OrangeD has it right.

    It's an "other firearm," not a shotgun and not a pistol. It fits into a narrow category all by itself.

    IIRC, they are still illegal under the laws of some states.

    i see in the catologs brace styled PG for shockwaves and tac's i thought you could not change out the raptor style grips on these

    You can't put a pistol grip or a shoulder stock on it, but maybe one of those so-called "braces" would work. It would still be over 26" long.

    So a Remington version with the box magazine feed, is a good deal for $500.00? I should probably jump on it, right?

    Is $500 a good deal? Is the box magazine modification worth $200?

    the box mag on the shorty is the dumb idea i think, mossy holds 6 that is good for me with out a finiky mag to bump around

    This is a factory built gun...not an after market mod. NIB. I do kinda like the box magazine.

    I'd like it better with a screw in choke system if it doesn't have one already. Looks ideal for use inside the house/big room.

    If I were to get a pump shotgun with a detachable magazine, it would be a Mossberg.
