I think they are some what rare these days, some variants as few as 25. Usually have a letter for the date code. G is 1950, P 1957.

Thanks Charlie. I came across the "letter date code" while doing an internet search. Unfortunately this rifle doesn't have a letter.0 -
You might have to join the below forum, to get the data. It wouldn't open for me.

Correction to page number 414 vice 444.
Bill, according to William Brophy in his book about Marlin Firearms, "A very few .30-30 20-gauge guns were experimented with, but production was never started." Pg 414 of reference.
Also, 1939 was the year the combination guns became available, including the .30-30 20-gauge gun (apparently for experimentation only). Also, pg 414.

My 2007 Standard Catalog of Firearms has some interesting info. The gun was produced in response to a request from Sears Roebuck to market in their stores. Prior to 1945 they were not marked "Marlin". No mention of 30-30 in production. Made 1937-1963. Various features can identify it closer to a date. 0 -
Thanks for the help rufe-snow, Kimi and yonson. 0 -
That really sounds interesting; would enjoy seeing that one! 0 -
Reply to James comment: "A very few .30-30/20-gauge guns were experimented with, but production was never started."
I don't think this is a really accurate statement. Reason being, I recently obtained a SEARS RANGER 30-30/20. I've heard others saying the Marlin 90's stamped experimental, but this Ranger is not stamped experimental. Additionally, the 1940 Fall/Winter Sears catalog shows a photo depicting the 30-30/20 and lists a price of $39.95. Which leads me to believe that this one was sold via retail.
