JUNERTYL scope ?????
Helping a friend clear out an estate from a good ol'boy. In his collection, there is what appears to be an older Unertyl scope. I really don't much about them, other than they were the scope for the model 52's and such for that era by externally moving the scope. By looking at it, it appears to be a 10x A/O scope with metal screw in caps on each end along with dovetail mounts. It also appears to be in some sort of unmarked factory box that fits the scope perfectly with an internal cardboard cover. The serial number is 13725. I want to help them sell it, but really don't know what to look for, or how to describe it. I have an idea that it might be worth something, but not quite sure how much. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

pictures tell the tale.....just about any unertyl scope is worth some $$$$. list it on the auction side with no reserve and stand back. 0 -
Unertls with larger objective lenses bring more money. The largest was 2", measured inside the bell. Generally, high power bring more. 0 -

What type of variations did they make in terms of magnification power, obj. size, a/o etc? Thanks again for all of your help. I will list it, but am wondering if there are certain words to use in the auction, such as a model number or something in the title or description.0 -
Providence shined on me - I have an 18 1/2 unertl with the rings and springs and blocks on my 52...
It had some wear and flaws.
I called the customer service number out of the back of a decades old catalog and to my great surprise Mrs. Unertl herself answered the phone - which was now a private house line (they had offices and private quarters in the building)
We chatted for about 15 minutes - great wife and nice lady.
Old man unertl still had a time capsule like shop in the building that he puttered around in along with an original machinist in his late 70's who kind of looked out for him.
She put the old man on my us phone and he asked about my gun and my scope and me shooting background and couches and told me to ship the scope directly to his on site shop.
He completely nut and bolt frame off restored / rebuilt the scope including vintage oem optics and finish.
He would call every few weeks to update me she chat about shooting -his old lady joked with me that he was lonely and all his friends were dead and he had stopped drinking.
She seemed concerned he was taking up my time - I told her he could call anytime day or night and it was an honor to speak with either of them.
A few months later I got the scope back along with a detailed invoice and pages of hand written notes and observations.
He charged me $87.00
He died shortly afterwards
One of my most treasured items and experiences.

You could use the auction side but some of those prices will be distorted by 'buying frenzy', showing a distortion in certain pricing.
I've worked with this gentleman before when I need to locate a period scope for a client:

Pictures, as mentioned, will be a great help for anyone trying to assess a value. You cannot get away without clear, sharp pictures so either learn how to do it or find someone to help you with it. You will need overalls as well as several detail photos to show the condition and features of any model.

toad67,
What is needed in the description is the power (10X or whatever), the objective (front) lens measurement, measured inside the objective bell. It will be something like 1 1/4". Mention the percentage of blue remaining. Described he mounting rings (blue steel or aluminum). Describe if the adjustment knobs turn freely with pronounced clicks. Mention if the screws that tighten the assembly to the blocks (male dovetail bases that are attached to the receiver and barrel). Some may be sticky due to bubba spraying them with WD 40 which dries and becomes gummy over time. Mention of the screw on lens covers are with the scope. Describe the type of reticle (cross hair, cross hair with Lee dot, etc). Give the complete serial number of the scope. Have clear, close up pictures.
This is all information I would want to know if I was a prospective buyer.0 -
