1909 Argentine Mauser Nedinsco scope mounting
Hi all,
Need your help.
I have a 1909 Argentine Mauser and an original Nedinsco scope. My goal is to convert this beautiful rifle into a sniper rifle.
Does anyone now a reliable gunsmith in Florida that could mount the Nedinsco in the Mauser?
Need someone that is used to mounting vintage scopes in Mausers, like the ZF39 in the K98, etc.
I'd appreciate your input.

Found this on-line. Of a original 1909 Argentine sniper, with Zeiss Nedinsco scope. Click on the magnifying glass, to enlarge the photo.
Unless you have the original mounts and rings. And the bolt handle is forged/bent. As shown in the photos. Your just going to screw a up a Argentine Mauser. Not going to be original at all, IMHO.
I don't know, about the Zeiss Nedinsco? But also a lot of the old scopes, didn't have integral windage adjustments. The windage adjustment, was in the rear mount.

Here are the right rings you need for any degree of authenticity:

Not only do you need the mounts but the rings may require removal of the scope
lens ., if you want originality. If you want to turn it into a scoped 1909
without alteration there are other options.0 -

I have the original mount and an original bent bolt. My scope looks exactly as the one in the photos.
The rings are already attached to the scope, I had this done when I serviced the scope in Argentina a long time ago.
You are right, the Nedinsco windage is the rear mount, you have to slightly move the scope right or left to adjust.0 -
One of my Argentine snipers (a model 1891) has an identical set up to the above referenced attached photograph including the turret bases and the claw mounts and the scope / down to the one piece rings
One of my Argentine Mauser sniper rifles (a model 1891) has a long eye relief forward mounted scout scope set up utilizing the diminutive German optics
My Persian / Iranian sniper rifle is similar to the above-mentioned / pictured set up but with a different brand - manufacture of scope
The external adjustment statement is a keen observation as most folks don't realize that German Mauser - based sniper platforms came with optics that required external adjustment
Both of my Japanese imperial Army type 99 sniper rifles have optics that require external adjustment - this set up being the example of no internal adjustment availability that most of us are familiar with

Long as the scope is assembled, to the mount and rings. So that the layout of the tapped holes. Can be transfer punched to the top of the receiver, in the correct position.
The only problem the gunsmith will face, is that the holes in the front mount. Will have to be drilled blind,I.E. (very shallowly). Definitely don't want holes drilled through. To the locking lug recesses.0 -
The only gunsmithing contact I have / had in Florida is Rebel Refinishing - I had at least a dozen guns refinished by them and they also did a bunch of minor gunsmithing for me...
I don't think they can do the specialist work that you require - but I could be wrong / and they could recommend someone whom they farm out work to...
I do advise some care and caution when dealing with sniper scopes and mounts - there are some pretty good reproductions out there - and some counterfeit ones made / altered to deceive
The British Enfield "t" type sniper rifle can be made entirely from reproduction parts as well as the M1 garand type C and D...
Most of the German platforms and the mosin nagant / SVT / dragunov family you are more likely to encounter repros or fakes now over the real deal

Might consider posting to the the forum below. Sniper rifles of various kinds, is the main interest of it's members. Many of these rifles are very valuable, and require very knowledgeable gunsmiths.
The gunsmiths, might not be local to you in FL though?
