Garand Sights
A few years back I picked up a ladder rear sight which instead of the usual or NM peep was threaded to accept apertures - Williams, Lyman, etc, type. Also found a globe front that replaced the blade front. It?s a great combination for me and I shoot it well - still floating around 20/20 vision. Just bought another Garand, would like to equip it the same and can?t seem to find either anywhere.
I presume threading a plain old rear sight would be easy, what threading is most popular for which brand?
Any ideas on how to do a globe type front sight that attaches directly to the M1 base?

I have the same set up - mine came from champions choice competition shooters supply...
Pretty certain they still stock it - it's a straight swap...
Takes the same apertures as one of the target sight set ups I have for my Winchester model 52 - and as some vintage iron target sight set ups I have installed on several smallbore rimfire rifles...
I have 3 sets - 2 are installed (one on an LMR bbl and one on a Dutch V bbl)
Same as pictured and linked below - great product.

Doesn't look like the carry it anymore. I bought an extra rear sight and will probably thread it for the Williams apertures. From what I read Williams uses the "popular" and supposedly standard 7x32 threading. 0 -
Many thanks. I searched all over the place but didn't think of going directly to the maker, geez .....[:0] 0 -
You might consider modifying a sight to fit that base. Way back when I cut several dovetails with just a hacksaw and a triangular safe file to make the 'wrong sight fit.
A spacer block can be cut to fit the rifle on the bottom and another cut on top to fit the sight - plus it can makes it easier to get the proper height.0 -
I can attest to this target sight set ups ease of use - ease of instillation and adjustment - and group tightening ability.
I have a pair of the Swedish Mauser target rifle platforms - iron sight sniper rifles and they also perform well.
I much prefer this system to that of the sight set up on the British SMLE or Ross rifles.
My K31 Swiss straight pull service comp target rifle has a sight set up that is comparable - and I have a neat globe and aperture front / rear cocking piece peep system that fits my .236 Lee Navy

Cutting a dovetail from scratch is beyond my abilities. I'm pretty good at modifying something that's close, doing final fitting and such, not so good at creating. I used to use a riser base with the correct "male to female" set up and a Lyman globe, but I like the sturdier and cleaner Alley set up.
Found out Williams, etc rear sight peeps use a 7-32 threading so I'll modify a regular Garand ladder rear to accept a slightly larger aperture.0 -
The more easily located and readily available national match style rear sight platform does allow for swapping apertures of varying diameters
Front and rear platforms are best applied together as a set
