baby mauser 98??
Recently picked up a little mauser 98 in 222 that I'm thinking about turning into a fireball. When I got the gun I had trouble pushing in the floor plate release allowing the floor plate to open. After taking the gun out I see that there is a small screw that appears to control the depth of the floor plate, and also holds a spring that puts tension on the floor plate release bolt. My question is whether or not that tiny little bolt should have some finger nail polish, or something else on it to stop it from moving since it turned very easily? My thinking is that it backed out a bit, putting pressure on the floor plate. Thanks in advance.

toad67,
Most screws used in the position you describe either have a detent of some form of 'thread locker' such as nail polish or the more serious versions. A small dab of nail polish on your screw will not hurt anything.
