Winchester Model 94 & Model 42

I have inherited a couple of old Winchester guns and I am wondering what the history on them is and what they might be worth.

The first gun is a Model 94, .25-35 WCF. lever action carbine.

Thad,

The Model 94 SRC is missing its saddle ring, and the rear sight is not original. It shows that it has seen a fair amount of wear & tear since it left the factory in 1923.

The Model 42 is a 1954 vintage Field grade gun, and it too shows a fair amount of use.

Neither gun is particularly valueable as a "collecatable" grade Winchester, but they are still worth several hundred each.

The 42 Winchester would sell for $1100 the first day it showed up in an IL gun shop. the 94 is worn W/O saddle ring but it's in a great caliber so at least $500 Both are great guns!

Would refinishing the stock & forearm and reblueing it bring up the value or would it be more than it is worth?

Don't mess with either one. Reblueing or refinishing will subtract substantially from their value. Keep em oiled so they don't rust and they will be just fine.[8D]

As previously written : Do not refinish the metal or stock !!!!! (although I'd still pay you $1100 for thew Model 42.......

I'd bet you could get $1500 out of the 42 in an auction easily and would probably be surprised at what you could get for the 94. As for making offers all they have to do is make an auction and it's a done deal. If you do list them please post it. Thanks.

Best to look at the action side. I just did and a guy sold a similar gun. The first time the reserve was not meet with a bid of 1200, the second time it sold for 1475.

Course your luck could be different.
