i just picked one of these up in a GB auction and upon closer inspection noticed it had no sling posts. well i found the front adapter, but would like to know if you have to drill the holes for the rear posts. it is the synthetic model, 270 caliber. i haven't gotten the gun yet, just saw it in the pictures.

I'm sure it could happen. Some flaw in the metal, Bubba wrenching on it... Likely could be fixed but maybe not worth it cost wise.

Used barrels are listed about $200 and you still need to get the old one off and the replacement one on/fitted.
added Can you post some good pic's of the crack and surrounding area. I would bet the block is high temp silver solder on.0 -
Gas operated rifles, have a standard operating pressure that they work on. If either to much gas pressure, or to little is generated. By the burning powder and bullet weigh, problems could ensue.
The Remington in 30-06, is a classic example of this problem, I'm not talking about standard pressure factory ammo. But hand loads, with heavy bullets loaded with the wrong powder. Either with a to fast or to slow burning rate.
Remington would be your best bet, for the cracked gas block. Unless your able to cannibalize a complete barrel assembly. From another rifle.0 -
Tuff finding parts. Looking for barrel as should have gas block on but come up empty handed. Remington did say send back an if unfixable will give deal on 750 auto but didnt say how much coast (deal). Any suggestions on where to find barrel or what to do 0 -
I'm sure it can happen, may have needed cleaning or too hot, contact Remington about their failure and go from there. 0
