I don't know why they never look like the pictures in the book. Maybe it's just me.

The second one looks like Birmingham Black powder I think. Don't know about the first but I would appreciate your input.

I have changed the photo, hopefully this one is clearer. Thanks

  The cross scepters under the crown, was the Birmingham proof mark used until 1904. Can't find anything, regarding the marking? Inside the oval.

  Went to another reference I have. It shows that "gauge" of the barrels, is shown inside a diamond shaped stamping. For some reason the stamping shape in your photo, is a oval not diamond shaped?
  
  To make a long story short. The "36" inside the stamped oval. Would be 36 gauge, in the old British and European system. .410 to us nowadays, on this side of the pond.
