Can a 223 Remington head space gauge be used to set the head space on a 17 Remington?

  According to the first edition of the Lee reloading manual. The head space for the 17 Rem. is 1.381. 223 is 1.467. Not even close.

  They set the shoulder back to give it a longer neck. The true 17x223 wildcat has a very short neck. Not the same headspace.
