Vintage Winchester Shotgun Ammo
Need some advice. I have an original, intact 20-box case (500 rounds) of Winchester Super-X Magnum, Mark 5, 12 Ga, 2 3/4", 7 1/2 shot, "all new plastic" shotgun shells that were probably produced in the 60s. I've never opened the cardboard case and it's in excellent condition. I suspect the case, boxes, and ammo are worth much more to collectors than to me as a shooter. Here's my question.
I see individual boxes of this ammo consistently sell for $25/box. However, you don't see many intact cases of this ammo, so I'm wondering if it's more collectible by the case? I know I could rip into the case and sell off the individual boxes, but should I preserve the case intact and try to market it that way?
I'm not fishing for buyers. I know I can easily sell the individual boxes. I'm simply trying to determine if I'm destroying a rare item if I rip into the case and corrupt its integrity. In short, is it more valuable by the case or the individual box?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and recommendations.

I think the un-opened case will be worth more than the sum of its contents. Finding that person might be just that much harder. Lugging a brick of 22's is a lot easier than a case of 12 gauge. 0 -
What do you have to lose? Put it on the auction, for a realistic price. If it doesn't sell, you can always break the case down. And sell the individual boxes.
If you do wind up selling them individually? Keep the original carton, they came in, in good condition. I'm sure it would have collectors value. Depending on markings, graphics and condition.0 -
I sell lots of vintage ammo. The stuff you have never goes for anything near 25 bucks. Paper or plastic 16 ga but not plastic 12 0 -
I would think it would go for around 250 to 300 dollars. There is possibly no monetary advantage in selling the whole case unopened. I say possibly because sometimes there is and sometimes there isn't. 0
