Mauser 98 Identification
I need some help identifying two different but similar Mauser 98's. I know there is a lengthy history of these rifles and was looking to some of the forum experts on what kind/model of rifles these are? Are they worth keeping? Should they used or kept in a safe? Any estimated value?

I am not an expert but they both look like good sound German military Mausers made in the years marked. Both "dot" and "dou" are manufacturers codes for Waffen Werke Brunn AG. I don't know why they were using two different codes at the same time. Perhaps to confuse the dumb Americans as to where weapons were coming from. dou 43 and dot 44 covers about a million rifles made in Bystrica, Czechoslovakia under German control.
Ah, OK, the chart I found did not say there were two locations of Waffen Werke Brunn. The Germans were just SO sneaky.0 -
the German code "dot" was for the Brunn location while "dou" was for the Bystrica factory. Agree that oth are good examples. 0
