7.62 x 39
I just acquired a rifle, in the above cal. Since I have reloaded for over 50 years, I assumed loading data would be available. Silly me. None of my many loading manuals even list the data. I'm talking about brass empties. What gives????? THX

My go-to reloading reference, is "Modern Reloading", (First edition). By Richard Lee. It dates to 2001. It has the 7.62 X 39, listed as the 7.62 X 39 Russian. Perhaps your references, have it listed in the same way?
The 7.62 X 39, first became a fairly common cartridge in the 70's. With the SKS bring backs, from Vietnam. Their were a flood, of cheap import SKS's, from China in the 80's.
I imagine any reloading manual, printed from the 90's on. Would have 7.62 X 39 data.0 -
Check you rifle for bore size. Stick to lighter bullets. 0 -
Depending on the rifle, it could be for a .311 bullet or a .308. Check the bore side so you can match the bullet to the bore. 0 -

Costs a few $$$ a year.
My Hornady and Sierra books list it, although Sierra calls it the "7.62 Russian".
You'll have to figure out if you're going to buy .311 dies and bullets or .308. Although there's less to choose from I use the .311 (I have a CZ 527) and Hornady 123 grain bullets.0 -

Remember that up until just a very few years ago, all that cheap Russian ammunition folks bought was made using lacquered steel cases and Berdan primed which were not reloadable. It was only recently that many of the less expensive manufacturers came forward with brass cases which could be reloaded.

There's a good article on reloading the 7.62X39mm cartridge for deer hunting in Guns Digest 1991 and if you search previous topics in this forum you'll find info on reloading the 7.62X39mm. I've always used IMR 4198 with Sierra 125 grain ssp bullets and Lapau cases. This load was accurate in both my Ruger mini-30 and a custom 77MkII. 0
