Colt Gold Cup sights question

What is this sight rail? Was this ever a factory option or did the owner add these? Thanks

    It definitely looks exactly like the Bomar you linked..I'd say you'r right! [;)]

    If you shoot it, keep in mind those were installed for serious target work.. The gun was usually tuned for target loads, not full power.. Again, Karl will be able to give more particulars..

    As the previous posters noted, they were aftermarket options. Usually but not always mounted, by a knowledgeable gunsmith.

    They had to be mounted by drilling and tapping holes in the top of the slide.

    I found a Aristocrat rail behind the firing line. At the Fish Canyon range I use to shoot at in Calli. Who ever was shooting it. Must have been using hot loads, not the target loads it was designed for. As the screws holding it to the top of the slide, had sheared off. The top of the screws, were still lodged in the rail.

    Couldn't believe they would just leave it there, lying in the dirt. Went around to all the other shooters, asking if it belonged to them. None of them would claim it.

    Took it home, thinking I might mount it on one of my 1911's. Never got around to it. Sold it on fleabay years later.

    They also add a bit of weight to the slide so there is a bit of load balancing needed to arrive at the proper balance between reliability, accuracy and prevention of damage to the installation.

    Bomar has been out of business for years.
    There are copies of the sights but not the ribs.
