1886 50cal
We just received a Winchester model 1886 with 50 cal on the barrel instead of 50 EX. It is also a round barrel. Anyone ever seen this?

What is the serial number? Round barrels were standard, octagon barrels were the optional choice (and slightly more common). The .50 caliber Model 1886 barrels were marked "50 EX.", or "50-100-450", or "50-105". 0 -
Bert~
Were there actually 2 cartridges- The 50-110 and a 50-100..I'm talking Headstamps, barrel stamps, boxes, advertising? I know it's a difference in the charge, and they're interchangeable in use, but was it an either/or choice at the time, or an adjustment by Winchester for twist rate/accuracy? I'm not familiar with the 50-105..0 -

Bob,
Yes, the headstamps, barrel stamps, cartridge boxes, etc. were different, and there were three different cartridges, all with the same case dimension, but with different powder charges and bullet weights. Correspondingly, the rifling twist rate was different for each.0 -
