Been a long time since I had one completely apart to reblue. Could just need cleaning of dried build up gunk. Or something is worn, perhaps a spring has failed or got weak.

I don't have time right now to look at the parts list to point you to where I would start my investigation.

If it only happens with ammo, then try some different brands.

added If this started after you cleaned it, then look at the pins/screws and what pivots on them for wear as in a sloppy fit now that can cause binding. Yes the fitting end of the slide lock #71 could be worn or the other part it fits into bolt 40 and screw 37. I'm not exactly sure here as its been since the early 80's.

Tough to diagnose without seeing it happen. If garbage gets behind the cartridge stops, the carrier will hang, so like Charlie said, I would start with a good deep cleaning and lube. Check your mainspring too, #59 in the schematic.

first thing I would do is spray clean the entire action with wd-40 very well and dry good then lube the action assembly with a light gun oil and allow the oil to penetrate the entire action then allow as much oil to drain from action and wipe away as much oil as possible, work action many times to ensure smooth function, you will either have good function or will need to break down assembly to inspect for wear or damaged parts.

Never spray WD-40 in a gun's action unless it is wet. The misuse of WD-40 is one of the reasons actions get gunked up and sticky! Despite what the maker of WD-40 prints on the can or literature, it is not a lubricant or a preservative.

The appropriate way to clean gunk out of an action is to use pure alcohol or acetone (my preference is acetone). Once you have all the dried oil, grease, powder residue, etc. cleaned out, apply a very light application of light oil.

I agree with Burt, no wd40. I use automotive solvent, starter fluid on tough spots then kerosene. I soak removable parts. Then CPL when clean.
