I have a Colt SAA first month of production 2nd generation, new in the box, unfired, unturned cylinder, 7 1/2" case hardned frame revolver. Whats it worth?? (.45 long Colt cal.)Original brown box and correct endpaper serial numbered to the gun. If you need more info, let me know . All paperwork in the box.

every one has an opinion but if you go by prices that different vintage
pistols bring when sold, the Colt single action first gen brings more than second gen and second gen bring more than 3th Gen. think of it as the fact more people will keep a pistol in great condition for a short time than a long time some of these SAA are over 100 years old I have one that was shipped APRIL 1879 of course it will bring more than a NITB that was made in 20170 -

From what little I know about these guns the 1st Generation and early 2nd Gen(about up to SER#39000sa)are of the finest quality.
I have read that the post 1965 guns were beginning to diminish in
quality and the decline continued through the years.
Can someone tell me how the quality of the current manufactured compares to the others?
Thank You
I have one with ser. #421**SA and someone told me the gun was made in 1964. Is this correct or does that ser. # mean it was made later? Thanks for any help.0 -
I am curious about the quality of the new ones.

The new ones are basically being made from a left over stock pile of parts. While yes, they were manufactured on more modern machinery, they lack some of the hand fitting of a fine craftsman. Same as in the new Winchesters, while they are made on tight tolerance machines, there are NO provisions ns for fine fitting...it is basic assembly line, put the parts together as they come...if something will not fit grab another part. 0 -
excellent book ..gun digest book of single action revolvers by jack lewis 1982 ?? ISBN0-910676-48-8..DBI Books...back then could not afford a colt but Arminius had nice single action revolvers rated not a collector but well made and internals would interchange with 1st gen colt ???...so i read somewhere....have several NIB 0 -

Are you going to shoot it or look at it?
added I ask because a good shooter might not be a looker same as a good looker might not be a good shooter. A difference of fitting in the important places.0 -
