is gonna go after this current debacle of putting in a new starter and the current power steering leak debacle. Who knew there was/ is such a thing as a power steering pump cooler. Looks like a $400 + repair. I bought this thing in 2005 for $17K plus the extended warranty for another $1200. Since the warranty expired 3 years after the purchase I dammmmmnnn near have another $17k in repairs. The motor cost me 5k two and a half years ago. I've got only 20k on the new motor but I'm now done spending any more on it. Its been down nearly 2 weeks as I keep getting screwed around by 2 repair shops. I won't stick another dime in it. As soon as I get it back it is going over by my sons step father in law to get a good porter job done on it and then I'm gonna trade it in on something else that I can make payments on while I have to pay to get it fixed. So there.

I have bad luck with used vehicles, I buy new or relatively new with factory warranties and they go before the warranty is up. It's just piece of mind for me.
We're having to replace a motor in one of our PD Chargers, 2013 with only 50K on it....Chrysler wanted $6700 for along block...we already had $4500 in repairs on that motor int he past year...Chrysler ended up settling on a $1000.0 -
Put a transmission in my 2002 Explorer. Six months later the motor let go.
Had problems with:
Radio
Heat controls
Window actuator
Door switch
Transfer case
Roof leak
Sold it to two redneck boys from WV. They put a used motor in it.
But I loved the smooth ride and comfort.
Nothing but Honda and Toyota from now on.0 -

No lie...Quality is job 1 my ass...bought a nicely equipped F150 new in 2017 and I am underwhelmed. I'll probably go back to GM at some point.0 -

I?ve had 4runners. The Explorer was more comfortable than the 4Runner but that?s all.
Ford knew about the 4.0 engine and transmission problems for years but didn?t fix them.
Who puts a timing chain in the back of an engine?0 -

have never bought anything less than 10 years old, usually private sales and had (so far) generally good luck
current Dakota p.u. with 4.7 4wd is an '02 with over 140k and so fr only real repairs were the rear spring shackles that rusted away because of the previous owner launching in salt water0 -
Toyota has ya'll fooled no one builds a car worth a damn.
Kia and Hyundi at least throw out a 10 year 100k Warranty.
No reason we can't build a 20 year 500K car for 20K other than greed.0 -

Well got a call from the repair shop yesterday and its gonna cost another thousand to fix. Have to replace the power steering cooler the two lines and now the power steering rack along with a front end alignment. Total cost around $1400 and won't be done until next Tuesday. [xx(][xx(][xx(] Been scouring the used car market looking at Toyotas, Honda's or possibly some newer styled Jeep. 0 -
Hi Armilite - you've seen my 07 four runner. At 140k on it and still going strong. When it starts to go I think I'll get ... another!
In full transparency, I should detail the list of repairs I've had to make since '07:
Brakes,
Wiper Blades,
Battery,
Gas Cap,
Rear hatch latch.

I'm die hard Toyota, so is my Dad. I got a 2nd hand 2002 Tundra from my grandmother with low mileage. I got it with 60k, it now has 140k on it. I've done the timing belt, water pump, yada yada at 100k and oil changes. yes, it does need lower control arms and upper ball joints and a rack and pinion, but they're all wearable items.
I also had a 2005 Tundra, same 2UZ engine, just with VVTI and a 5 speed auto, instead of a 4 speed. Bulletproof truck. Had it for about a year and bought a 2017 Avalon. The Avalon I bought for driving for Uber, but didn't do all my homework. I thought it would qualify for Uber Select, or Uber Black. It didn't qualify for select because it has a Toyota badge and not a Lexus badge.
That car went to my grandmother.
I now daily drive a 2002 4WD Sequoia. Crap gas mileage, and replaced all 4 O2 sensors and the radiator within 7 months of owning it. It also has 190k miles on it. once again, all wearable items. I'm personally not seeing myself deviating away from Toyotas any time soon, Especially the 1gen Tundra platform/ 2UZ engine.
It's famous Toyota, overbuilt, underpowered. All the ingredients for superior reliability.
I exclusively work on flood cars from Hurricane Harvey in Houston. The best "water resistant" vehicles I've seen (If there is such a thing) have been the Subaru Crosstrek, and Lexus GX460. Minimal problems with either model. Toyota engineers think BEYOND the first three years of the vehicle's life (Leasing cars) and think long term.0
