Help with tap size
I have an old (1924) Reising semi-aoto .22 that I'm trying to clean-up the screws and holes to mount the grips. From my limited knowledge I've measured the screws at .125" diameter with 56 tpi. Would this be a 5-56NF? From my searches I'm finding that taps and dies are non-existent for this size. Can anyone help me find this or tell me if I'm off base in my sizing?

Wouldn't be National Fine, as that's 44 TPI, for .0125 diameter, #5 screw. The screw size for 56 TPI, is #3, with a much smaller diameter. 0 -
A #5 is 0.12 close to an 1/8. 56 TPI is usually #3. Gun screws are often weird and usually have finer pitches so you could be spot on.
One for sale, maybe they would look for you.

I think you can get both a tap and die made in that size for $.0 -
That is a standard but seldom used U. S. Standard thread. High Standard used that thread for their grip screws and side plate screws. I believe Brownells sells the old High Standard grip screws. You might contact them. 0 -
#5-56 UNS
Tap is around $45 to your door.
