Picked up three new ones today

Three new whiskeys that is.

I am a bourbon guy and I stocked up the bar with some great bourbons this year but I also decided to broaden the bar with some other great whiskeys

Rye-Peerless
Irish- 18 year old Jameson
Scotch -18 year old Dalmore single malt
Looking forward to enjoying and sharing these with family and friends ver the holidays.

    The Peerless rye is probably the best rye whisky I've ever tasted. It is pricey, but it is worth it.

    Glad to hear you say that. I chose Peerless based on a recommendation from a friend who is a big Rye fan.

    That is my second bottle of Willet rye. It is very good, but not as good as Peerless.

    I had some of the ten year old Whistle Pig on my transatlantic cruise, and it was a very good rye. I haven't tried the twelve, but I suspect it is even better. My guideline for rye is Woodford Reserve; in order to fall into the superior category a rye must be better than Woodford (which is why the bottle is less than half full). Willet, Whistle Pig and Peerless fall into that category, but you'll pay a big premium on all three.

    I will probably never have more than two or three bottle of rye in the bar at one time so it OK. I don't drink very much and when I do I want a great drink

    Can't go by me, I like Old Overholt. Not complex, but it's very smooth and I like the flavor. Being also cheap, it probably doesn't make the cut.

    Bottle of Bourbon and I'm happy. I don't like scotch very much, I've never tried Irish whiskey or rye whiskey... Maybe the next time I go to the liquor store, I'll try one of them...

    not much of a rye drinker. I have had store bought and homemade. if I had to choose it would be homemade, but that only comes around once in a blue moon
    I do like jim beam bonded and once in a while I will get a bottle of red breast

    I currently have 3 of your ryes in my liquor locker.
    Bulleit, George Dickel and Ezra Brooks.
    From what I gather, all 3 are sourced from Midwest Grain Products in Indiana, then given proprietary treatment at the respective bottlers,,,, or not.
    I have learned that Dickel is charcoal filtered before bottling.
    Of the 3, it's my favorite.
    All are lower price point, but my philosophy is, "life's too short to drink less because of budgetary limitations".

    I can't argue with that philosophy[8D].

    Dickel is a good rye, and so is Old Overholt, which was mentioned by He Dog. For my money, Woodford Reserve offers the best balance: good rye flavor at price point which allows you to make it a regular pour. One of the most disappointing ryes I ever tried was Basil Hayden rye. BH makes a fine bourbon, but their rye was (IMO) a total bust; it tasted too much like their bourbon, which is not the point of drinking rye whisky.

    I was fortunate enough to be gifted a bottle of Pappy VanWinkle three years ago. I still have one more swallow left in it for New Year.

    The past two, I have received a bottle of the 12 year old VanWinkle, which is plenty good. I mainly keep Evan Williams, and will get some Bulleit occasionally. Woodford Reserve is another i get at times.
