Thursday Mourning
I am weird when the kids were here i would sleep right through all of them coming home. 4 kids. LOL
However if something out of place happens i wake up very fast. For instance 1 early mourning about 4am i woke up and a car was parked in front of my driveway with the engine running.
I slipped out the back door and they were smoking something out of a can and i shot 1 round over the car into a tree. They took off like their butt was on fire.
Thursday my wife woke up at 5am to take a shower and i was sleeping and i heard a car pull into my driveway. That woke me up. My wife was drying off and told me she heard a car door shut.
Meanwhile Bear who is not barking but is going grrrrr grrrrr grrrr very quietly. He only grrrs the mailman, UPS or Fed EX. Kids or family pull in and nothing.
So i know right away its someone who is not suppose to be there. I put on a pair of sweat pants and get my gun and i hear them backing out of the driveway.
All i saw was an older american dark coloured 4 door car. About 9 oclock my wife calls me to tell me that a mile away from us someone got robbed about 2 miles away.
Nobody got hurt but they were robbed. They were in the same kind of car as what i saw. I called the sheriff and gave them the information about what happened at our house.
I am pretty sure we were the first target until they saw lights on in the house.
Another thing we park behind the house so if you ride by it looks like no one is home.
That plus all of the other bad things happening is making my wife scared to live where we are.
We live in the country about 4 miles from a town of 1500 to 1800 people.

Our home property is 11 mles from the nearest town, totally isolated at the base of a mountain.
"No Trespassing" signs do not work 100%.
"Active Firing Range - Back Out Now!" signs are much more effective. A variety of steel targets behind the house add visually to the effect (and are a lot of fun).
When anyone pokes around I show them my backhoe then mention the fact I can dig a grave in less than 12 minutes...in the dark.
We consider the cost of a street light as money well spent.
I keep a car in the driveway, especially when my wife is home alone.
A firearm is never more than 3 steps away in the house and always on me anytime I'm outside the house.

I don't know why you guys don't have CAMERAS. They work! I have so many scumbags in this neighborhood recently, and when they see the cameras, they just LEAVE.
You can buy a entire 8 camera HD Quality set for under $300 now. NO REASON that everyone shouldn't have one!

I live out in the country also and away from a main road. I put up motion sensor lights around the house. The deer trip them but they are a good deterrent as are the dogs.
I have never had anyone come near my house at night as far as I know.
Dave where you live in NC there are so many druggies I would be on high alert 24/7.0 -

Me to.. Always leave a car in the driveway also like you do. imo big deterrent.0 -
I put up Blink cameras that run on batteries so simple to mount and when motion is detected camera's go on and my phone app lets me know.
Can turn on from a distance if wifi is available and I like them and they didn't break the bank.0 -
