Someone Hates me -
Third year in a row, after the 4 day weekend from New Years Eve, etc.
I've got to (on Inventory Day/tomorrow.) Scrap/clean the Main Line Paint booth. It is where the gooey undercoating gets sprayed on to the underparts of the Trailer.
After about a year, since the last big time thorough cleaning, all the gooey sticky undercoating oversprayed on to the walls of the Semi-Trailer sized booth get cleaned, as well as the floor. Air Filters cleaned, walls, ceiling. Etc.
My mistake, was pretty much taking charge and organizing the 15 people around me. I do not think this went unnoticed. (Obviously not.)`
I am trying to psych myself in to going in tomorrow. It is going to SUCK.

Although tempting, it would cost me 3 days pay. The day I call out, and the preceding two days Holiday pay. (Mon/Tues.) As well as getting the penalty point in attendance. (15 points and you are gone.)
I'm going to wear very crappy clothes, boots that are on their last legs, (soles taped on.) Your boots usually have 2-3" off gooey crap on the soles when you are done. I plan on throwing mine away.

It is usually reserved for 1st year participants. The last couple years in a row, myself and a couple others have pretty much taken charge and got it done. Have I mentioned that it SUCKS?0 -

we use to wear the tyvec ( sp ) throw away suits helped some there light weight don't really notice having them on . when doing really dirty / greasy clean up jobs some wore them for just painting and general clean up0 -

The regular "Paint Booth" guys wear them daily. Too hot to wear on this all day endeavor. It's gonna be throw away clothes.
If I get pulled for this crap next year (4th year.) I am going to go to HR.0 -

I do feel for you
not all but a lot of where I worked , such jobs were volunteer and on OT
but they also provided our uniforms ( so we all looked alike ) they cleaned and replaced as needed . but most us had a couple sets just for such jobs ...
by the way I hated wearing them so I seldom did
and gloves but the gloves were mandatory on every job even the assembly line

Picture using a putty knife to scrape off sticky goo, in a Tractor Trailer sized paint booth. Roughly 75' X 20'.
The floor and "the Pit," is the best. A Trailer length 4' wide slit in the floor. Shoveling goo out.
I can hardly wait. I've been trying to psych myself up for this for a couple weeks now.0 -

when younger I worked construction for just over 13 years two years + was adding on renovating two sewage treatment plants along the way
ankle deep in poop in settling tanks about 8 to 10 feet deep 30- 40 feet in diameter . pumped down and rock removed so we could clean out the bottom troughs of sludge the nasty kind
first thing of the morning most of the crew heaved up there breakfast from the smell. we would have it from head to toe and splashed in our face and mouths was common every day
we each had a pair of rubber boots and gloves ( which were contaminated with in the first day no place to clean up so eating lunch was always a treat
couple old farm boys would wipe there hands on there paints and say its only 'poop "
but it was contaminated with every know bug humans have and then some
worst job I ever had words can not do it justice
I guess stand in a septic tank of some state park splash around for 8 hours would be close to the experience
I would bet you have had worse jobs and being in the military ( you not I ) no one will be trying to kill you while your doing it
just think its only a couple days

no we had more than enough splashed on us with out throwing more
I did spid most of my sandwich on a co-workers windshield
we were sitting in his car ( I had just sold him a few weeks before ) eating about ten feet away from one of the tanks
a damn fly got into my can of mt dew I took a drink I spit the whole mouth full on the inside windshield of his car .. the look on his face was dude WTH are you doing then he started laughing
I think now the fly should have been the least of my worries of what was splashed in my mouth and eyes [:0]
Oh they were a couple months into the job when I got there I just left another one we added on too but it was 99% all new
the first wave got shots to hep protect them from the nasty germs .. I got be careful out there [:(!][:(!][:(!]
but then again when I started running a jack hammer 1st time and working close to the big ram-hoes ( huge jack hammers mounted to track hoes ) I told them my ears are ringing buzzing at night they said you get use it no hearing protection or warnings ..

You're cleaning it all wrong.
1] open both front and rear doors
2] place 3 large portable barn fans on one end
3] with 25lbs of Reddot powder, draw a 3inch line the
length of the booth.
4] lite one end of powder trail
5] go to lunch.0 -
Well with roughly 1/2 the work crew we had last year, (we had about 8 this year, 12-15 last year.) We kicked A$$. Got it done in record time. Apprx. 1 1/2 to 2 hrs faster than ever before. The Head Foreman commented on our release, "Not only the fastest ever done, it looks the best I have ever seen it."
Yeah, we are screwed for next year I am afraid. [xx(]
The 8 of us were willing to dive in, get it done and GTH out of there.
I forgot to mention, after we get done cleaning the walls/floors etc. Changing all the air filters. (Some about 20-25' high on the ceiling, we get to roll paint the whole shebang. Two coats up to about 15-20' high.

To top it off, they only had about 3 (yes 3) full size paint rollers on hand for about 3 paint booths. They gave us a bunch of 3 1/2- 4" rollers. (I was pissed.) I spoke to the Head General foreman about the situation. He sent someone for paint rollers. 3 hrs later when we were finishing painting, they showed up. [^]
I showed my Guys, (F' this, let me show you something.) I took about 4 of the small rolling pads and slid them all on to a full size roller set up. (On long poles.) Bingo, problem solved.
