Dislocated Jaw -
Was taking a shower a couple nights ago, all good. Suddenly the right part of my jaw clicked out. Painful, not the first time it's happened. I never really felt that it clicked back in to position. It hurt for a couple days to open my mouth or try and chew. Teath did not align quite right. Knew something was not quite right. Etc.
Just now yawned, felt it click back in to position. Felt much better. Can open my mouth without pain. [:D]
Anyone ever experience this?

Happened to both sides at once one time a couple years ago. Took about 4 hours to go back to normal. Thought I was going to the Emergency Department on that one.

Yes! It sounds like TMJ: Temporomandibular Joint dysfunction, which I had when I was in my early teens. The symptoms were exactly as you described and happened four or five times a week. Severe cases require an operation, but my doctor gave me a non surgical option: For one year I was not allowed chewing gum or chewy candies (I still won't chew gum) and I could not open my mouth wider than the width of my thumb, which meant that all of my food had to be cut into small pieces or cubes. The worst part was that I had to sleep flat on my back with my head fixed in a special hard-foam pillow. I sleep on my side and I didn't get a decent night sleep for the entire year! After a year of this my jaw was set in place like steel and getting my mouth to open again took some real effort. The bottom line was that it worked and I have never had any further trouble with my jaw. 0 -

Years ago during some "intense personal interaction" with a 1200# bovine, her foot made contact with my face resulting in a dislocated jaw. I thought my lower jaw was broken (again) and went to the ER. Some meds for relaxation and a considerate DR. put me back in shape. It was difficult to chew for a few days but it was SO much better than having my jaw wired shut for 4 months that I hardly noticed. 0 -
