Military to change chow line menu for Fitness
Our Miltary Personnel is overweight and eat an unhealthy amount of the wrong kind of foods & beverages. Seems to be an American problem overall. But The Navy has stop frying food on board ships is heresy for Southerners![:D]
Now if Congress could just cut their spending next. oh, wait that heresy for them too![;)]

Like the rest of the country, the military is grappling with high rates of overweight and obese troops. More than 17 percent of soldiers were classified as obese in the Army?s 2016 and 2017 Health of the Force reports. And even the Marines, who boast having the military?s most stringent physical requirements, fight to keep thousands in the ranks from tipping the scales toward the overweight category every year.
The Navy stopped frying foods and selling soda aboard ships in 2014. And since the Army reported the highest rates of obese and overweight troops across the Defense Department, it has taken steps to improve nutrition in its 198 dining facilities.

Growing up, my family ate a very fatty diet, and we were all thin as a rail. We spent most of our time outside, not sitting on a couch watching TV or playing video games. Just Double-PT the recruits that are the fatties. 0 -

Yep. Holding a couch down is not exercise.0 -
When I was in I ate whatever I wanted because I did PT twice a day most days. I ran 40 miles a week and only took one day off, Sunday.
I was never in a unit that had fatso's.
I can see the Navy having a problem being stuck on a ship for a year.0 -
No more S.O.S.?
Why worry about weight when they got drones? Not like they need to fit in to a cockpit [:D].0 -
And yet, outside the mess hall, the military continues to supply MREs, which are nothing but high-carb, high-sugar, high-sodium, junk food bombs. Very little meat, but loads of candy, PopTarts, cookies, Cheezits, and preservative-heavy bread. 0 -

Most of my career I was "overweight" according to the Army charts -- they wanted me to weigh less than I did as a HS junior with a good year of weightlifting for football ahead.
So I'm always a little suspicious when military says "overweight" -- it's too often based on charts, not individual build.
My first year on active duty I went on sick call for some respiratory problems. Doc, sitting at corner desk facing away from me, looking at my records heard me enter and said, without looking up, "First we need to lose some weight."
I stood there in tight t-shirt and said, "How much, sir?"
He turned and looked at me, eyes got a little bigger, and replied, "Not as much as I thought."
My bench press workout was with 225 pounds and bench squats were 550. Nope, I was not a beanpole[:D] I always maxed the push-up and sit-ups on the PT test but still got harassed about my weight.[:(!][:(!]0 -
Always liked the way USAF dealt with the lard asses. They either lost the weight or they were booted out. 0 -
When I was in, the Chow at our Mess Hall, (permanent duty station,) was excellent. (Very healthy if you wanted it to be.) I went to the Gym on the universal 6-7 days a week for 2 hours a day. Ran on a regular basis also. I was in killer shape. It is all a choice.
I chose to eat healthy, and a lot, plus strenuous exercise, on my own.
My Son can not believe photos of me without my shirt, when I was in.
It's a choice. Be in shape, eat right, exercise, or not.
It's your choice. Not the diet offered.0
