Taurus model 66 s/n

I was looking at a nice model 66 (or it appeared to be). I found the s/n but no model number. Looking at our other side it sure looks like the 66. However the s/n has only 5 numbers and Taurus doesn't recognize it. I'm wondering if the number has been changed or perhaps it's not a 66 at all. Your thoughts folks.

    I think the model number is stamped inside the crane.

    It is inside the crane if it's a 66- At least all that I have seen.

    Thanks guys. I'll check. If it's a 66 I'll back away since the s/n may have been changed.

    Yes it is Ricci but it's 5 digits. If it's a 66 that isn't right. I would love to buy this piece but I'm worried about if it's legit.

    Do the numbers look wonky?? I think that?s the first time I have ever used that word. Haha. Are they all lined up and professional looking like they were done at the factory?? Did something cause you to doubt this revolver or the person selling it?? Are you getting one of those gut feelings??

    The numbers look professional. They are a larger font that I see on our auction side. What causes me a problem is the the Taurus site doesn't recognize the number. I'll check the model number in the the crane tomorrow. Perhaps it isn't a 66 at all and that could explane the s/n.

    I have personal experience with both Colt and Browning having no record of serial numbers on two pistols so it does happen.

    maybe......i bought a taurus 22 mag revolver...piece o crap with a cylinder looked like chambers bored with a drill press...took it back and got my money back...found out later they put em together with any parts laying around to get rid of that model...my last taurus ...maybe ur model also ????????????

    My old 3" Taurus Model 66 .357 also has a 5 digit Serial Number 106XX, has no model designation on it, and has an 'H' over '190' inside the crane. I bought it used, and don't know when it was made.

    The saga continues... yes, the crane reviled the model number 66 and also "H 978". This is a 6 shot 357 with walnut grips. I'm confident it wasn't altered now, especially with DaveF having a 5 digit s/n also. Thanks again guys.

    I had to pull out my Taurus .357 (6") from the safe and take a look at it. Has 324 in the crane. 7 digit serial #. Nice handgun, very nice walnut grips that fill the hand nicely. Nice sights. Overall a nice .357 for what I paid for it.

    May have to put a few round's through it today. I've not had it out of the safe in a while. (Rainy out now.)

    Being somewhat blind, (like Perryshooter,) I can still shoot the center out of a Bullseye.


    Two Leo's at my CCW class asked, "Have you ever considered shooting in competition?"

    I may not be able to make out letters, but I am highly attuned to movement. I can make out "Center Mass" just fine.

    Pretty proud of my shooting considering.
