just back from pawn shop cruise.......
every month or so I take a day and cruise the local pawn shops about 3-4 in our small town. was looking today for nothing in particular, really just killing time, but was sort of looking for flintlock 50 cal rifle. of course no one carries the old muzzleloader anymore, everyone want the new inlines, had a small shop just open few months ago I hadn't been in.
went in and told the young fellow I was just looking, and was really just wanting an old flintlock or an old sidehammer muzzleloading he said he didn't have any and hadn't seen any for years as they won't do pawn on them, no demand for resale. I said I was just hoping someone had one in the back that noone wanted. he yelled for his boss who came out and said yeah we have one in the back if you are interested, but it is missing a few things.
he brought it out and it was just an old CVA side hammer, missing the wedge pin and someone had put a wooden dowell in it instead of a ramrod. I ask him what he wanted and he said make offer. I told him not to be insulting but no more than $50 for shape it was in, he said sold...... now gotta go thru my parts box and find a wedge and extra ramrod, I'll do $50 for any gun in shooting order

patches go in and out smooth, I know the resale is zip, only thing is west virginia is starting their primitave season back up, percussion and flintlocks with open sights only. I have a couple inlines so it is time to go back old school especially for the price, the last two I had I donated to 4H program, they had shoots for the kids and used the old muzzleloaders 25 grains powder and round ball, kids loved to shoot them, but your arm/shoulder got sore loading 4-500 rounds in an afternoon, but the smiles were worth it0 -

I am glad to hear WV is going to a "Primitive" season that in the sprit of the hunt.
I despise Crossbows and In-lines with scopes.
I know some will call be names for that view but its the way I feel.
I have hunted with a Fintlock 54cal Lyman GP rifle for years. I made it from a kit when I was like 17.
Iron sights, open ignition that is what its all about!0 -

no pawn shops close to me ,, there was one 30 years ago he had a large shop in Dayton and a small shop in town here
he use to sell my brother older guns that were in his trunk he had not had time to log in [:0][:0][:0][:0] I never got to know him that well,
and never ask did not want to kill any deals my brother may have got
my guess why his pawn shop was not around long0 -
I bought a 54 cal T/C Renegade at a pawn shop for 60 bucks when in lines first got popular.It was in near perfect condition and had the workmanship and quality that went in old T/C muzzle loaders. 0 -

The barrel on my TC Renegade .54 flintgun is done for. While I was overseas it appears that my oldest son who I love very much decided to try his had at loading and shooting it, it was never cleaned [:(!] I trued getting the breach plug off the barrel, that puppy is siezed tight. Need to see if Green Mountain still makes a barrel for that. 0 -
I read that Track of the Wolf has some 50 & 54 caliber drop in barrels for T\C's in stock. Green Mountain is making some again but the 2 calibers listed will only fit the guns with the 15\16" wide barrel channels. All of those early 54 and larger bore rifles have a 1" barrel channel. 0 -

Have a shop in Springfield Oregon that all they deal in is Black Powder and nothing else. Also no of the new fancy stuff either.
