Chain Saw Deals? -

Tractor Supply is running a $55 off a 18" Poulin Pro Chain Saw for $100, Friday only. Best deal I've heard of, and I've called around.

Anyone heard of, know of a better deal?

    Stihl has been running their MS250 for $299 which is a very good saw and good price IMO. It will hold its value unlike the Poulan Pro. Echo has a very good saw and should be able to get a 45-50cc saw under $300. I bought a Stihl 026, of all places Ebay, last week for $105. Usually I get a mechanics special on those for that price, but this one even thou probably a 1990s saw was like new, just needed a good cleaning, a couple small items and carb kit. Those 026s maybe the best saw ever made, especially for a one saw plan, the EPA BS on the new ones is a pain. I couldn't believe how good it was when I got it as the guy had bad pics in his listing. It maybe a keeper.

    I've had good luck with Poulan cleared a bunch of trees with them just don't use ethanol gas

    I bought a MS250 for $249 on a Father's Day sale last year.

    I've also got two Poulans...one is the 18" Pro, its got a bigger motor than my Stihl MS 250 and cuts faster than the Stihl. I've been using it for about six years, no problems.

    Had a 14" Poulin Pro, and an 18" Homelite. Both worked great for years. Cut lots of firewood up North with them. (5 Years?) Worked great for about a couple years down South here.

    Had my Buddy check them out, give them the once over. (Low compression on each.) Each ran about another 15-25 minutes running great, then bogged down. Turns out each needs a top end re-build, "no parts available." WTH?

    Although I'm tempted to go high end, Echo/Stihl - The $100 Poulin Pro deal is attractive. My Poulin Pro was very good for what I paid for it, and how much I used it. $100 sounds like a pretty good deal for a Saw, everyone else wants $169-$189 for.

    I'm transitioning to ECHO as a compromise between performance and weight. Current ECHO stable includes CS 361, CS 400, CS 4600(x3), and CS 5000(x2). I bought the 400 last year and it's done well. Bought the 361 in October NIB at a store closeout and only started it to make sure it would run. It's a "pro-grade" saw with a lot of "gitty-up" for it's weight class.

    The Stihl MS series is a "home owner" grade saw which is OK if that fits your needs.

    I have a tree farm and the chain saw is the basic tool we depend on. I use several kinds, and for the price we prefer Husqvarna. I used Stihl for years but they only sell parts through dealers and dealers stock parts for ten years. The old ones were good but I gave in to Huskys. Echo is good also. For the ocasional user, I would look at a Poulan for the price.

    Just about all new Stihl saws start with the MS diesignation even the top of the line pro models.

    Extensively used a Stihl MS660 with approx a 32-36" inch bar at the Sawmill I used to be a Heavy equipment Operator at, a few years ago.

    Pretty sure it was Pro series.

    For how much I paid for my last Poulin Pro, and how good it worked, I plan on making the drive over to Boone, NC. tomorrow to pick up the 18" Poulin Pro for $100. (That is a good deal. IMHO.)
