Difficult night - difficult morning
Essentially no sleep after midnight - the cold and damp weather are playing hell with my neuropathy - pain level is high - function is minimal...
Still got up at 5:00am and took care of all the animals elimination needs and let them get some back yard and back porch play time in before feeding them...
Threw a bunch of small fleece mini blankets into the dryer on high - toweled off all the critter - added fuel to the fireplaces (lumber scraps and willow branch bundles and pine cones / pine needles.
Got everybody fed and watered (thanksgiving leftovers mixed in with dry food) and spent a little social time with each individual
I am passing on water or food right now as nausea is pretty bad.
Vertigo and neuropathy are acting up so walking not much fun.
Going to take my normal meds and try to sleep in this chair with a blanket.
I have the new York Times crossword puzzle and a book on the orange free state with me - and I need to wipe down and rack the Walther side lock toggle action semiautomatic shotgun now that it's all back together and tested and fixed
Maybe take out the Mauser zig zag semiautomatic revolver and see if cleaning it up and lubing it and breaking it down and tinkering it gets it working tonight.
Another semi rare oddity to play with - you don't see them very often in person or at a dealer or show - they seem to have gotten thin on the ground as of late.
I will eat something later - tonight - just not feeling it now.
Play some music through my headphones - maybe force myself to do some pt like stair climbing or use the small kettle bells for awhile to get cardio over 80%
Any suggestions or comments - critique or advice is not only welcome but solicited.
Maybe some animal related activities or some other weird and obscure guns to be checked over.
Just going to be a bad day - they happen.

Girls will be back Tuesday night and Wednesday night...
Just texts and rare phone calls right now.
Did some laundry and changed or the bedding on all 4 beds and the couch...
Now I am in pretty bad pain and am not currently ambulatory
Have we mentioned how stupid and stubborn I can be???

Prayers for you Mike. When i was having bad nausea i had two different medicines for it.
I am not 100% sure how long the medicines were supposed to last i just forgot with a lot of other stuff.
The doctors told me i could switch them up and take them 1 hour early.
I found out that taking 2 different nausea meds and alternating back and forth worked better than just taking 1.

For a reading distraction, find a copy of "The Complete McAuslan" by George McDonald Fraser.
If you are not familiar with Fraser, he was the author of the Flashman series of novels- very well researched historical fiction based on a mythical British Officer, Harry Flashman.
However, McAuslan is his semi-biographical 3 parter on his time as a newly commissioned officer in the British Army immediately post WW2. A Highlander unit. Hard to put down, it is a series of short stories.0 -

Dug out the dardick revolver and an ammo can full of trounds and accessories and parts and tools (wrapped in a silicon cloth inside a crown royal bag)
May inspect and clean and disassemble and test fire - won it it a poker game believe it or not...
That and the Mauser zig zag should occupy my attention or distract from pain...
Certainly the girls will be interested in them - so might as well pretty them up.
Mostly been laying here wishing the pain away unable to sleep or concentrate or eat.
Wish I was better company - the pain has amped up the last few days and I am a miserable buzzard.

Is it wrong that I have a total of 107 dardick round ammo sleeves???
-it's a decent range day fun gun or teaching tool - a range could rent it out distantly...
Not much of a combat gun or suitable CCW piece and the sights could be better...
I have been thinking of revisiting the basic design but with .22 win mag or .30 cal.carbine or the 5.7 FM cartridge
More compact rounds would mean more internal capacity or perhaps a more carry friendly ergonomic combat design.
I also noticed that most of my round triangle sleeves are neon green or bright yellow (I assume so you don't lose them at the range)
I have the 1500 which fires .38 rounds and has a .22 long rifle bbl in the box along with .22 rounds (I also have the sold separately stock docking station)
I think that the round design and Melvin Johnson's input could be revisited and turn out a superior product today.

If I remember correctly dardick went out of business and numrich arms bought everything in the building - enough parts to build hundreds of guns...
And I think numrich experimented with the ammo as well - trying to make a round sleeve that would fit over standard ammo like the .38 special round...
And I never understood Johnson's involvement - it looks like they were trying to design a new machine gun / a better man portable belt fed squad support platform - but ended up marketing a handgun..
I guess I deserve my know enough about the whole story just stuff that I absorbed anecdotaly.

I took a ride out to Penn State to see Mackenzie receive awards for perfect attendance and for being on the Dean's list for the third consecutive semester...
She also received her third student / campus employee of the month award (all work related to the degree or field of study or a specific course - and credits accrue as you work)
She was awarded 3 cash grants from campus affiliated alumni programs ($500 towards campus book store - $500 towards the on campus CVS - and $500 towards clothes from the campus swag store)
And another group awarded her 20 each $20.00 gift cards
I am just getting home now - been out since 7:30am - taking care of the animals and starting some laundry - Makaila dropped me off and went straight back to work...
I have now taken my Max allotment of meds and just afixed a dermal scopalomine patch...
I don't think I will be getting up for 5 or 6 hours and if I am lucky I can get some sleep - I am a total wreck - not worth the scrap value right now.
Totally worth it even if I took months off my life - she gave a short hurried quiet speech in which she referred to me as the text book definition of a good man and said I was her forever father.
Have to put the phone down now for a bit.

Just got up - about 5 hours after sitting in the recliner and falling asleep - I don't think I moved an inch just went all coma like...
Time for some more meds - time to take the animals out onto the back porch or into the back yard - except for the turtle whom might freeze and the hedgehog whom we are supposed to keep from entering a hibernation cycle...
Mackenzie sent me a few texts - I am the yardstick she will measure the men in her life against - I can keep away the monsters at night - I have taught her that cancer might kill me but it won't beat me...
I think she has talked in person or on the phone or via text with me more in the last 3 days than in the previous year...
She is pretty angry at cancer right now.
I have to do some more laundry - stoke and feed all 3 hearths - take the animals out again around 2am...
I intend on eating a whole pint of breyers natural vanilla ice cream and a 22 ounce glass bottle of Mexican coke with cane sugar not HFCS
may try to sleep - listen to music - read - I will find something - both revolvers are soaking overnight in blue wonder so no zig zag or rounds till morning

Pulled out one more project to play with...
It's a 5 shot .41 rimfire revolver made in Belgium in 1900...
It has oversized saw handle style ornate parlor / target style grips on it (I think it's carved from a maple burl growth)
All the normal Belgian proofs including the monument tower on rue 22
8" medium profile hexagonal bbl marked "saint George" with a stylized dragon the date ("1900") and a heavy Roman numerals II
I think it may have been part of a boxed matched set for dueling or a wealthy business man or ships officer
Heavy notch rear sight and blade with inset bead front (top of bbl says registered accurate at 12 paces)
Oversized curved wide profile trigger - two stage with a 4 pound crisp clean break - very little overall travel
Heavy solid frame and cylinder held with heavy ornate pin - appears that you remove cylinder to reload
Crisp - sharp rifling and a decent but dark bore
I have been using .41 short rimfire ammo from Argentina but it also accepts longer copper cases from CIL or old dominion from Canada
Looks like it was made for export to the US or Canada
Not super embellished or ornate just some stockade fences and a linked chain motif
I am detail cleaning it and field stripping as far as I can - will test fire it

Mike, it is good to see that you are keeping yourself busy. Working always takes one's mind off of painful things.
