certified refurbished??

how do you all feel about buying refurbished equipment, specifically stuff with a gas engine. ive bought refurbished stuff in the past with good results but nothing with an engine.

    Have bought in the past, a Boshe hammer drill < mixed results. Have had a lot better luck at pawn shops.

    Just bought a factory refurbed computer for about half what it originally cost. Perfectly happy. Haven't bought anything engine-driven that was a refurb, though. Shouldn't be any different if it was done right.

    Several years ago I bought a Worx 30V string trimmer that was listed as "refurbished". I think it was just a return as it had grass stains on it. It was a good buy and still working fine.

    Maybe some cell phones with certifiable refurbished with a Re-Named logo from Huawei And ZTE. They would be a steal of a deal![:o)]

    I have bought many refurbished power tools, including a couple of gas-powered ones, as well as refurb computers. I have had zero problems with any of them. Refurbs usually get carefully checked over for problems before being sold, probably more so than brand-new items.

    But, what does "factory" mean? In most cases, it means that they were checked out by a large repair facility in an unmarked warehouse.

    I've seen SIG's that were supposed to be factory refurnished, & the SIG paper band on the grip would make me comfortable buying one. But, an unlabeled "police trade-in"? I don't know about that.

    In order to be called "factory refurb" the "refurber" must be an OEM certified facility. I read that as being a factory trained/certified operation.
    I buy "refurbed" computers rather than new. Once it's been scrubbed and re-programmed, the things work as well as new.

    I had 2 different refurbished cell phones. The company must not employ a quality control dept because neither worked, sent them both back for refunds.

    If I have to make a big purchase I will internet search for the item refurbished. Have always had great luck.

    I've had good luck with refurbished equipment. My most recent purchase was a Garmin GPS that's the same model GPS that I have in my car and I paid just a fraction of what I paid for it new. It works just as good as my original one. I put the refurbished one in my truck so I don't have to keep moving the one out of my car.

    I used to buy reconditioned Ryobi string trimmers from Harbor Freight, when they were $50 each with free shipping. I bought at least two at a time. I had no problems with the engines. I did have trouble with the bump-feed heads, and that eventually led me to buy an Echo trimmer.

    I hate string trimmers! They were invented by the devil and put here on Earth to cause people to curse, raise hell and lose their religion! [:(!]

    I've been so pissed off with one I could have won an Olympic javelin throw with one of them. I threw it at least a half mile.

    I have always replaced the string feed systems with BLADES on my power trimmers![:)]

    My past two or three computers have been from the Wally World web site. They have both new and refurbs. The prices on the refurbs are pretty good. They have all worked fine. Check them out. [:)]

    I have bought refurbed battery powered Makita drills from our local ACE HARDWARE and they all have held up great over several years of use.

    We used to have a Sears parts and service outlet where I once picked up a refurbished top of the line (at the time) Kenmore vacuum cleaner. It lasted a couple of years, but it seems most new vacs only go about the same amount of time around here.

    I would estimate that all of the refurbished stuff I have bought saved me about 50% of what I would have spent on new.

    My old lap top computer after about 4 years of use is just about at the end of its run. I will look into buying a refurb this time around, and thanks for the idea![;)]
