Taking over the rooms your kids no longer live in?

All the movies make it look like when your kids move out they are 15 with teenage posters on the wall....plastic toys on the shelves and a stack of clean laundry on the edge of the twin bed they used to sleep in. Like they just walked out of the house and came back when they were 25 and they are introducing someone they are engaged to.

My oldest moved in with some friends the day she turned 18.....she actually left a silly note for her sister like she was sneaking away. We knew she was fine and I left her room untouched for a while, but I needed it for my work.....so it became the gun room pretty soon after she moved out.

Then......my second daughter went off to school. I moved my clothes into her closet because her closet is bigger than the one in my room. Her bed is still there, but her things are boxed up and in a stack. The baby came and we have put a crib and changing table in there.

I've ordered new backdrop paper for my photo table and instead of hanging it in the current gun room we are going to move the bedroom items to the old gun room and take the bigger room for my work. Its going to consolidate everything into one place which will be nice.

I just feel like taking over their rooms has somehow destroyed that Hollywood idea of coming home. I do think we will have Liam's room turned into a home gym faster than the blink of an eye though whenever he does move out. [:D]

    First thing I did was remove the bed and replace it with a Chick incubator.

    When #1 son graduated college and moved into his apartment 1 hour away, the wife made sure he took all,of his things from his room and closet.
    I still have some stuff in totes in the basement .
    This summer, she turned his room into a "sitting room"
    Hide a bed couch, chair, cedar trunk that I refinished for her, and a lamp.
    When he's home for a night or weekend, he pulls out the bed instead of staying in my den.
    Otherwise, the room stays empty except for her Sunday afternoon nap. [:D]

    i took over my youngest sons bed room when he moved out . I retired 4 years ago wife still works and we both snore , I was sleeping on the couch and staying up late watching TV and playing on the internet ( GB and flebay not the other sites [B)] most of the time ) so it was a easy change [:D]
    I need to repaint the walls he had them all black had installed a ceiling mount projector tv . and wanted it dark as possible
    he left a few things but nothing of any concerns

    When son #2 (supposedly "improved model"[;)] ) moved out we converted their old basement activity room back to more formal spare bedroom area.

    When they were young we built the "activity room" by putting up a temporary wall (OSB covering studs) and covered that with a photo mural of geese flying over a sunset lake.

    Picked a lot of BB's out of the geese in that mural.

    Found a "boy-sized" hole in sheetrock in rest of room covered by a big poster. ( Seems they had a "wrestling party" at some point)

    When my daughter left home my late wife made her room into a three feet deep closet. When my son left I had a place for a safe.

    My girls moved out years ago. One comes back to visit and brings her two girls. That takes up two rooms. The other comes back to visit with her current boyfriend. That takes up a room. When they all come back at the same time it's a full house. They still have some of their stuff in the closets that I am one day going to trash.

    Four closets and 3 rooms still full of their stuff. When I ask can I get rid of some small thing it's, "Uh, I don't know".

    My oldest daughter lives and works in London. She seldom comes home, so her room was taken over by my wife to serve as her office. My youngest daughter's room remains more or less as she left it. Both girls are getting married next year (that will cost me a fortune) so Mrs. K is already planning on making daughter #2's room into a nursery.

    All 3 still have their rooms available any time they want. Upgraded to queen beds so their spouses don't have to sleep with the dog.
    Wife did take their closets though[8)]

    Kids gone, I temporarily changed all the locks and after a few years, sold the place and moved many miles away![}:)][:D][8D]

    OH.....my green font ink has once again dried up.
