    I tried Swiss once when that was all I had. It ruined the pie.[V]

    Real cheese not processed, a nice mild cheddar works nicely.

    I took an apple pie and some cheddar cheese to work one night. Out of an entire maintenance department the only one who had ever had apple pie with cheese (besides me, and I grew up in Wisconsin) was a Japanese technician who was old enough to remember being in an internment camp during WW2. One Mexican custodian did remember a waitress asking Barney if he wanted cheese on his apple pie on an episode of Andy Griffith.

    Fruit and cheese is the preferred dessert for lots of folks, especially after a heavy meal, so cheese pairs up nicely with apple pie. Cheddar works especially well with apple pie, but, as Arby said, it has to be real cheese and not the processed crap [xx(]

    Ice cream is just colder, sweeter cheese, so there's nothing at all odd about cheese and apple pie. A nice cheddar or colby is best.

    My late FIL ended most meals with ripe pear slices dipped in his table wine. I thought that was odd until I tried it. Sublime. My own father (a much simpler man) always had bread, butter, and jelly for dessert.

    I don't have a sweet tooth,but do enjoy a few grapes or other fruit after meals.

    Been eating sharp cheddar on apple pie all my life. (73 yrs) Dad would hardly eat apple pie without it. Don't knock it until you try it. [:)]

    Wife likes her pie that way, I like mine warm with vanilla ice cream.

    Now as for "Dutch" apple pie with that top layer of caramelized butter & brown sugar, no cheese necessary! [:p] Vanilla ice cream.....yes!![:p]
