Split a fair amount of wood -

In about 1/2 hour. 350-400lbs of 4-5 year old cured Oak. (Worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator at a Sawmill.) Could Cherry pick prime overcuts/logs showing metal etc. Load them in to my pickup. Left there pretty much every two weeks, with a crapload of prime wood.

Just bought a new 18" Poulan Pro 42cc chainsaw on Black Friday. Have been slicing up prime logs I have on my property. Got home this evening, busted out the mattock. Split up a bunch of slices I had made with the saw.

Forcasted to get heavy rain next two days, transitioning to 4-6" of heavy wet snow. Got the wood split, and in under cover in about 30 minutes worth of splitting.

Double door, Fisher Grandpa model woodstove. (Going now.)

Have about a weeks worth of prime Oak, Cherry, and Cedar on hand inside the house ready to go. We just melted off, 20-22" of snow, we got last weekend.

I LOVE splitting/burning wood. [:D]

    The second Saturday in December we had a wood cutting for my Son and a friend of his who's having problems getting his wood pile built up. By the time the friend arrived, we had one large oak delimbed and had started blocking it off. Started the splitter and with me on the handle and 3 teenage boys loading the trailer, we loaded a 7' x 14' x 30" deep trailer in 1/2 hour.
    While two went to dump that load, the friend and I plus two of the boys dropped, delimbed, and mostly blocked off another load plus a mid-sized pickup load.
    When the trailer returned, we split and loaded it again in less than 45 minutes(the boys were beginning to fade).

    I used the little hydraulic splitter and a small 10" blade chainsaw in the garage...

    Sitting in a low bench - I got some stuff prepped but I ran out of steam - still have no stamina

    I spent some time later doing up bundles of willow branches and rose bush cuttings - and dried out a bunch of pine cones and needles

    The cord of wood I had delivered was almost over the top well cut and sized - and the guy helped me stack it

    I have fruit wood branches to prepare and several pallets to break up

    It's slow going for me and stupidly I often over due it and put myself at a deficit

    My recently departed late Uncle Frank spent most of his golden years splitting firewood for family use along with supplying his grandkids product for their wood selling business.

    He was a WWII veteran and the last man standing from my dads family. Passed this last June at the age of 97!

    He always gave his wood splitting "hobby" credit, as the reason for his longevity![:)]

    Just finished staking two cords last weekend. I felt it by the end of the day. Still have four trees that need to be cut and split. Hope to get it done this weekend.

    Then have to take down some more trees to meet the management plan for my tree farm. Then will have to skid them in so that they can be cut, split and stacked.

    Like they say burning wood warms you up twice.

    This past summer, I got a bit lazy....er, my back was giving me fits, so I cut a few corners by not splitting my firewood for my outside fire pit.

    Boy!! I sure learned an age old lesson that split wood burns soooooo much better than "rounds" [:0]
