Pearl Harbor Day
Not much on TV yesterday about Pearl. Sad that there was not more. Had a couple of movies on TCM.

At roughly the same time (but on the other side of the international date line) the aerial attack began on Wake Island.
450 Marines and 68 sailors (with a thousand civilians) were stationed there.
They held out until 23 December. The survivors remained as Japanese POWs until 1945.

One of the military funeral honors I provided with my Marines when I was on AD was for a Marine who had served there (and survived the war as a POW).0 -

I had a VERY close friend that died December 7th 1987, my father in law died December 11th 1987, my dad died December 17th 1987 and mom died December 19th 2011
December is a very hard month for me to forget [:(]0 -

Don't forget Hyundai and KIA. While we're at it BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen, does Audi count? If it does then Fiat and how Chrysler's in the bed with them. Oh and how Jeep is in their pocket. If Russia made cars we'd be in them, too. We could go way, way back with British rides but I don't think average folks can get in to one.

In the long run the Raid on Pearl Harbor was a failure and the IJ found that out the hard way.
Hyundai and KIA are Korean(South) so they are our allies.
We have not really been at war with China, at least directly so their cars are OK.
Sweden was neutral in WW2 and was a major supplier of Iron to Germany before and during WW2. So I would call them Nazi sympathizers along with the Finns but then they were being invaded by the commies(Who were our allies[:0]) so NOGO on their cars.
We didn't go to war with the French(at least since independence) so I guess a Bugatti is OK( I think they are owned by VW now I am not sure though). We never fought India or Australia so their cars are OK.
Don't forget the British we have been at war with them at least 2 times so their cars are a nogo.
As far as the Japanese go we kicked their ass so bad they would still be trying to get their stuff together if it wasn't for us. I think we should have executed every Officer in IJA/N but we let them slide.
One thing about the US, go to war and lose and your country will be better off in the long run.................I guess the dumb ass arabs haven't figured that out yet.0 -
I heard tell this morning that none of the remaining survivors would be at any of the events taking place there this year, for the first time since (I believe) '41. 0 -

Actually during WWII China would have been an Allie.
Know from being on Okinawa The Japanese were the Only country that has ever paid back the USA from Helping them rebuild.
Fiat is that not Italian so they were an enemy.0 -

It is a function of time, of course, and while one can commemorate 7 December, 1941, I much prefer viewing the Pacific War from 15 August, 1945, and celebrating the triumph vs. commemorating the attack on Pearl.
Perhaps today is not the day to vent, but I am tired of memorials and bemoaning the failures and the losses. What was started on this day in 1941 ended on 15 August, 1945.

this is also my mothers Birthday . she has been gone since 2007. As a kid I always ask her and wanted to know what she was doing on that day. she would always just smile and say I love you son. heck I thought there was a big secret. then as I got a lil older I realized what a silly question I was asking.then when I got married it was also my mother inlaws birthday. I loved to listen to my grandpas stories of pearl. he was there that day and was one of the boys that helped fish the wounded out of the water. his stories were riviting to me as a kid! this day has always been an important day in our house.0 -

Pretty sure the US went to war with France. French and Indian War.

I have to disagree with your views about Dec.7th Don.
I find it sad that TIME washes away most memories about how our country was invaded by foreign powers leaving such high casualties of American lives.
That being said, just think about Sept.11, sixty some years from now.
Could end up just a small one line foot note on the back page.[V]0
