It has been a long time since I've seen and heard an airborne F-4!

In my research earlier today I saw a flight team that changed from the F4 to another aircraft. They can now fly 4 or 5 aircraft and use the same fuel as 1 F4.

Been hearing the Uncle Sam's Canoe Club's search and rescue chopper off and on today. Shark attack in the bay? Last day fishing for salmon and the boat went under? Maybe it was such a nice day even the coasties had to go for a ride?

Yep! Here at Tacoma Narrows Airshow!

Went to the Olympia airshow a couple weeks ago. Undoubtedly many of the same pilots/planes. There was a Zero replica, a Czech jet owned by the local air museum, and many WWII planes. Can not beat the P51 for a show. Aerobatic displays were a little boring because of repetitive routines, and to see the best of the demos we had to look directly into the sun. Did you see the jet engine dragster?

All in all, a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I try never to miss an airshow.

Because the House is inside the Traffic Pattern, and not a Quarter Mile off the (Usual) Approach End, We don't go, just Watch and Listen from our Deck. Sure Heard the Jet Dragster, every pass! Two today, and One Yesterday.

When I was in Iraq I spent ablut 1 1/2 years at Balad Airbase (LSA Anaconda), home of the F16s. How such an itty bitty teeny tiny plane can make so much noise is beyond me! The airfield was in the middle of the base, when they put planes up any outdoor conversations stopped untill the planes were gone.

And I am well aware the takeoffs are the same no matter what but being there, hearing the sirens then those F16s taking off along with 1/2 dozen Apaches and 1/2 dozen Blackhawks gives you the goosebumps, taking off in anger, what a sight.

BSR, if you think F-16s are loud, wait'll you hear an F-35. Hill AFB phased out all its F-16s and now fly F-35s. I live a measured eight miles from the end of the runway, and if two of them go at once, they rattle my dishes. I can't imagine what it's like to live near the base.

F-4 are cool but I really miss the Vought F-8 Crusader(Last of the Gunfighters)

I have seen them bring some serious hate on targets.

I did four deployments on carriers. My favorite aircraft was the COD. Brought the mail.

When my older brother was in the Air Force the Thunderbirds used the F-4, he said after seeing them all the shows they did using other planes were kind of disappointing.

Baker from Oklahoma few his P51 up to an airshow in Gt. Bend Ks. years ago and we drove in just as he made two low passes over ...sounded awesome and i talked to him after the breakfast...when walking around the plane it seem much smaller than i had envisioned it from the movies only thing not exact on his was the fake gun barrels out the wings...had a navy fighter with folding wings that was used on aircraft carriers in WW2..the fold mechanics were complicated... had old cars and cycles ..interesting morning

I used to live right under the departure end of the runway at an F4 base, Clark AB, Philippines. When they did a mass takeoff for a Cope Thunder exercise, I sure didn't need an alarm clock that morning to get to work on time. They would line up a dozen or more for minimum interval take off. Those burners would shake the house down to the foundations. [:D]

Didn't you say you'd flown the F-4, Rocky?
    Any good stories?

No, I never flew the F-4. My list is a lot more prosaic, although I did fly a variant of the F-80 in Ground Attack School. Most of my time is shared between the humble little T-37 Tweet and the O-2, both Cessnas. My only afterburner time is in the T-38.

Worked mostly midnight's as an aircraft electrician back in the late Sixties....if they didn't fly during the day, I couldn't get to sleep without all the noise...

I spent 2 years as a crew chief for F-4 aircraft at Shaw AFB in Sumter SC back in the mid 70's. We called those birds "HOGS"[:D]

I was on the receiving end of catching and recovery for the Thunderbirds flying F-4's back then when they payed our base a visit.

Due to their oil systems they were not meant for "inverted" flight.
