Mower Dammit -

Just finished mowing my rather large (2 1/2-3 acre) yard. On one of my last passes, was slowly going over my 14X14 concrete paving stones. Clipped one badly. (Killed the motor.) Got it restarted after a couple tries. Engaged the blade and lowered it down. Gouged the grass/soil. Apparently I've bent a blade. Fairly new mower. (Maybe 5-6 mow's this season.)

Can I take it off, and beat it back somewhat straight? (Or) Am I screwed. Buying a new blade/blades? (42" cut, twin blades.) Dammit.

    I'd replace the blades and check the pullies real good.

    never had any luck staightening one, they would still shimmy and may wear the spindle out early. spend the money one new one and save trouble in the long run. but hey you could plow up a small garden before you change the blade.....

    Yeah, I was definately Roto-tilling when I engaged the blade and lowered it down. [:0][B)][xx(][V]

    Since it is new, I would go ahead and buy new blades.
    Hopefully it is the blade and not the driveshaft.

    Years ago my brother ran over a large rock with a new push mower.
    Bent the driveshaft and it was done. Probably still sitting the old barn all these years later.

    The blade is toast, you'll never be able to get it straight enough. It will wear out the spindle bearings.

    you probubly can beat it straight/flat enough to grind down and make a cheap machete, I use old pushmower blades and keep them on my four wheeler

    I straighten and balance bent mower blade and reuse them but many times the blades will bend easily again.

    Neighbor around the corner hit rock, brand new push mower, bent crankshaft, destroyed blade and store would not take it back. Tried to crank as was out by trash. No go. Sawed crankshaft in half next to bottom seal and popped case. New crank less than $30 and $10 for blade. Cost me $40 for $300+ mower. Still at my 2nd house in Va. after 6 years pounding away.

    Replace them both then save the good one for moments like this.

    Wouldn't be surprised if the deck was bent (hope not but that energy had to go somewhere). 'They' sure aren't making anything like 'they' used to.

    I have to put new blades on the wife?s John Deere 42? ZTR every spring.
    She gets a couple mowings where the yard looks good and the remainder of summer, it looks like a bad haircut [:D]
    Rocks, tree roots, sidewalk edges beware.

    I try to instruct her on paying attention. Some of you other married guys can attest
    You can tell them, but can?t tell them much.[:D]

    If I were you Ken, I'd just leave the bent blade on your mower until you dig up that pair of lost eye glasses![:D]
