Went to the Raleigh Gunshow today
Wow!
The prices were up there and it was almost all "Tactical" AR stuff(Which I really don't want to look at)
Older S&W revolvers were insanely over priced IMO($675 for a used M64 no box)
I did see some cool older stuff like 2 Peabody rifles, a Burnside carbine some Rem Rolling blocks even a few Dutch ones.
One guy had some really nice S&W's in 455
There was guy who makes Knifes and they were very nice looking.
I got some hand made Lemonade and big soft pretzel and man it was good[;)]
$9 to get in even with a coupon is getting to be too much just to go look.

I haven't been to a gun show in over 30 years. The first time I was asked for an admission fee was the last time. I am not going to pay a fee so I can maybe buy some overpriced BS.
Decades ago gun shows had sellers that were looking to move stuff and there was usually a wide variety offered at reasonable prices.
Now they tend to price used stuff with new , or higher, prices and act like they are doing you a favor to even offer it. I guess some people actually buy though, or else the shows wouldn't exist. I know some sellers still are reasonable but they are few and not worth the drive, expense, and entrance fee to shop with.
The shows must have the same sellers that offer auctions for more than new selling prices.0 -
I really like to go to Gun Shows just to look at the guns. If I find a deal on something I want I will buy it.
But mostly its like looking on GB only in real life.
Now it is mostly over priced junk you get for 1/2 price at PSA.
When I see M-64 S&W's for over $400 I know its bad.
I remembered some of the prices on some guns and I just went on the auction side to check them out......Even with Shipping and say $20 x-fer fee guns are still cheaper on GB.0 -
There is some value in just having a large variety to look at and compare. I've paid fees to go to boat shows and such just because I can look at a lot of different features etc. in one place without the extra time and gas of going to a dozen different dealerships. 0 -
many years ago I enjoyed spending the day sometimes both weekend days just wondering thru the tables and boxes of stuff
would always find something to kill my budget ( at that time a hundred dollars was about max anything over was a rare time [B)])
I would buy and trade all day work up to something I wanted
the internet came along the shows size dropped by 3/4 of what it use to be along with the neat or inexpensive finds [:(] I still go every few years but mostly just to look .
if your lucky enough to find some one walking in just needing the cash or selling off dads / grandpa's old gun(s) but even that is a thing of the past
one dealer at a some waht local show has the same table just as you step into the room for 30 + years just cherry picking no one gets by with out him or a buddy at his table stopping them0 -
I sorta feel obligated to go to gun shows but have to prepare myself mentally for sticker shock. You will feel much better if you think all is nothing but a show and prepare yourself mentally and not buy any thing.
Knowing it pisses DEMOCRATs off when these shows draw huge crowds is another motivator.
The sticker shock is not due to affordability on my part, but 80% of the sellers have their stuff WAY overpriced. IE: Lb powder - $35, Primers - $50 per K, Federal Autocomp 22 LR 325 rounds at $40. 40 SW police trade ins are almost double what you see on GB or sellers such as AIM, J&G, & Classic.
Certainly there are some people that are actually trying to sell, but they are scarce.
These sellers have made one thing clear to me and that is if I really want something, I can do much better here on GB.
I went to many Raleigh shows when I lived in NC, but that was 18 years ago. People were actually trying to sell back then.0 -
I haven't been to a gun show in over a decade. The closest is Hillsville and I don't spend much time in the gun show part. The prices are typically over the top and if I want something I just shop on GB. The BATF ended most of the private sales at Hillsville so even that isn't worth while anymore. 0 -
careful Sam, you're walking on poofin ground.[B)] tow the line boy[:p] 0 -
