cracked and repaired forend

I have a shotgun I'd like to refinish. One of the issues is a cracked and repaired forend. The work wasn't done well. Its an old wood glue repair.
Any thoughts of if and how I could take the repair apart and do it over myself ?

    When I have to repair smaller things, I try to use rubber bands instead of clamps. Usually lots of rubber bands. I also wrap what the item with plastic wrap to keep any wooden bracing pieces from bonding to the item.
