I signed up for Life Membership when Slick Willie got re-elected.
They pulled out all the stops and fought tooth-and-nail to keep Heller v. DC from getting to SCOTUS.
I called and asked why. Their answer, "We might lose."
I quit actively supporting them and ceased recruiting activities after that.0 -

If the actions of a group are worth supporting, I fail to understand how minimizing the money one sends to that group is a positive thing.
I am a GOA Life Member and a Defender's Club member with the SAF, yet throw additional money every year because I support their efforts.
I would hope that those who strongly support the NRA believe in it enough to do the same. If you do not, perhaps you should look for an organization that is worth giving more than the minimum.0 -
I'm often surprised by the negative comments toward the NRA by some folks (on the right - I completely understand the comments of the left).
While the NRA may not be as strict / uncompromising as some would like, they're still a pretty loud voice against gun control.
I'm a life member - have been for years. I also belong to other 2A groups. I support as many as I can afford. I even have a portion of my Amazon purchases dedicates to SAF.

If it wasn't for the NRA this forum may not be here. GOA is good. I belong to it as well as the NRA and the Illinois State Rifle Association. Small costs to keep our freedom. NRA is not perfect. Neither is GOA but they both help and are worth everyones support. 0 -

I do not believe I have EVER heard anyone complain about the "shooting" side of the NRA.
But when it comes to the ILA (Institute for Legislative Action) side
the NRA has been (dare I say) less than stellar in protecting our 2nd amendment rights.0 -

They are good at this, and deserve to be praised for the work they do in this arena.
For decades they supported gun control legislation that they believed would preserve the access of Americans to the rifles, pistols, shotguns, etc. that were within the area of their expertise. These actions inserted the Federal Government into the gun control and regulation business, however, and irreparably damaged the fabric of the 2nd Amendment. The NRA-ILA has taken steps in the past 6 - 8 years to attempt to mitigate that damage. This is a good thing superficially, but one must recognize that most of their efforts focus on legislated access instead of government limitation.
It is no small difference, and while it seems the majority of gun owners and NRA supporters agree with the actions, these actions are in support of gun ownership, not the inherent individual freedom stated in the 2nd.
It may be the best that can be done at this point, but many of us hold out hope of a liberty renaissance that, while it may not ever fully restore the unlimited nature of the 2nd, will at least recognize the fundamental truth that it is an individual liberty and that any government intrusion is extra-Constitutional and must meet an extremely high bar of need prior to implementation.
That said, the NRA is an excellent organization regarding firearms training and preserving the ability to purchase with government consent firearms that the majority of their paying members accept.

What is disgusting to me is people that like guns, hunt and enjoy owning firearms and would not and do not give a dime to any organization that tries to help them keep their guns.
Look at some of the other countries that have been required to turn in their firearms.
Tell the ones that were required to give up their firearms about their GOD GIVEN right to own a firearm.
AND also remember what the Indains were told, for example the Cherokees, TURN IN YOUR ARMS, THE GOV'T WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU. (really)
If not for the NRA plus some others you would not be posting any threads or looking at any guns for sale on GB.
If you think it's a GOD given right to own firearms and you like your firearms and you do not support the NRA or any other gun rights organizations you better keep on praying for YOUR GOD given 2nd amendment rights. The common sense contained in your words appears beyond the ken of many.
As I have said before, if it weren't for the NRA and it's members, IP43 would be gathering signatures right now in Oregon. The Hardline No Compromise crowd has short arms. Can't reach their wallets.
And as the NRA has joined the SAF in a suit against Seattle's storage law nonsense, how about we all take a freaking hint and be glad organizations support your overall cause, rather than opposing it because it's support doesn't quite agree with your own in all facets?0
