Hippo Kills Tourist

Saw where a Japanese Tourist was killed in Kenya by a hippo. Brings to mind the idiots that go to Yellowstone and try to "pet" the bison, thinking they are "tame", or want to hand feed the bears. Gene pool cleaning.

    Hippo's are very dangerous animals. Never get near them or between them and water.

    I believe they account for more deaths in Africa than any other Mammal(Notice the bold before you start correcting me[;)])

    Crocodiles don't even mess with them.


    In Africa I tried to stay far away from them, Elephants and Buffaloe. Lions and stuff like that I really was not all that worried about.












    What is the biggest killer of Humans in Africa, I would say the mosquito. [:0]

    Hippos kill more humans than any other animal in Africa (besides man) and I agree they were the ones I was most careful about.

    Not only do they freak if you get between them and water they can be hostile if you approach the water where they are at (ask me how I know)

    I did not like being in their proximity without being in a boat or truck and in both cases be ready to throttle cause they can attack for what seems like no reason.

    Japanese are generally very cautious tourist so it is surprising one of them were killed

    when you have a critter that many people can stand straight up in their open mouth then that is one to keep mucho distance between munchies

    It was Chinese Tourist and this happened at Lake Naivasha. I spent a few months there and its is a beautiful place. The town of Gilgil is not too far away and there is where the Kenyan Army's 20th Parachute Bn is stationed.

    Sounds more like Chinese to me. They gots to get theirs first mentality. Get used to it with their upper middle class "touring".

    Hippos scare me more than any other creature on earth, and I am glad they do not naturally inhabit the area in which I live.

    Reminds me of a video I saw years ago of a German tourist who walked up to several lions who were chowing down on a gazelle or something. He filmed closer and closer until he was right in the action. A lioness glanced at him and BOOM! He came apart like a rag doll under a lawnmower.
    Another victim of Disney movies and their lovable anthropomorphic animals!
