    Smokes are already close to $9.00 per pack with all the taxes Montana has on them. And why attack vaping when there is not one valid medical review that shows them anywhere near as harmfull as tobacco? Tax it to a stupid level and you?ll start seeing black market sales. And why does Montana seem to want to keep up with states like CA and NY? I thought Montana was beyond liberal horse crap. Oh, I forgot, Missoula, Bozeman, Paradise Valley and a few other places harboring political refugees who tend to vote liberal, isn?t that how people like Testor and Bullock get elected?

    medicaid----the freebie care.......not medicare GG. i seriously doubt this new tax will be used as advertised. like the lottery money supposed to go to education, everybody thought it would be in addition to general funding, it just replaced what the state was spending already. there was no net increase in funding for schools. i doubt this smokers tax will be treated any different.

    that the tax doesn't provide enough funding. tax something else?

    Oh no, we can't have smokers quit. That's unAmerican. Nope, the funds would be earmarked and Rosendale would be responsible to oversee it's proper use. Everything else you suggested is pure emotion and not about the subject. Why should non-smokers foot the bill for people that are knowingly killing themselves "their way"? I'm not okay with footing the bill. [;)]

    Great Guns, with all due respect, my comments are not "emotion" based. its facts that states have instituted sin taxes, and lotteries" with the explanation that such receipts go into a special fund, hinting[but not stating] that these funds will be in addition to funds already started. then the trap is sprung that those funds go into the states GENERAL FUND, and the amount that had been getting paid, is now deducted back into the GF, and the only monies paid out are those from the sin tax...if paid at all. remember the windfall lawsuit against the tobacco companies. where did that pork barrel money end up?

    sin taxes are BS...and i remember working at the gas station when cigs were 25cts a pack...Budsweet or Swisher Sweet cigars were a nickel. ....i have been waiting for an air or oxygen tax to be promoted
