Shooting Guns Are Bothering My Wife
We live in the country and a lot of people around here shoot.
We shoot a lot at my house with the kids, grandkids and friends.
However i will not allow any shooting before 12 and after 5.
Unless its to test a gun that was taking apart and worked on.
Some of my neighbors will shoot all night long. That makes my wife mad.
It does not bother me but she has a high pressure job and she loves her quite time.

These folks are being rude and thoughtless.
A good response may be to blast 200 watts of rap music at them after they are done for the night and see how they like it.
It has nothing to do with how they are making the noise, IMO. It is the fact that they are making noise at times when their neighbors can be expected to be trying to sleep.0 -

I would try putting together a BBQ for the neighbors around me, get to know them socially and then bring it up during casual conversation. You'd be surprised at how many people out there are actually good people, just not aware they're bothering you. They just might apologize and stop doing it at night. Just a suggestion that might actually result in making good neighbors and friends.
If that doesn't work, then go with 1000W concert speakers [:D]0 -

I shoot when ever I want very seldom at night cant see any way and of course to be some what respectful but have emptied a mag to check a gun or to dispatch a varmet
but what about your neighbors that work 2 or 3 shift and sleeping during the day that have stressful jobs and your shooting ?

we also had a neighbor that got a trucking company under the wire with out any locals ( buddies with the zoning board ) never ask the neighbors also a repair shop for his trucks , and work on the trucks 24/7 not to mention coming and going and some love there Jake brakes
also farmers have to get it when you can with the weather
other than the trucking company just part of living out side the city
always hear some one shooting it seems like far off but still hear the reports
JMHO I do not thing the sheriff would care its the country nose and smells are part of it ( the local farmers use chicken poop to fertilize trust me I rather hear the gun shots [:D]0 -

I shoot at my place too. I don't shoot on Sunday because there are some folks down the way that have a big family get together every Sunday.
I don't shoot after 1700 or before 0900, same with running any loud machinery, like a leaf blower.
I don't really have any neighbors but I have folks that live close enough to hear me shooting or blowing leaves.
If I had a problem I would go talk to them. If they tell me to FO, oh well.0 -

Law enforcement is exactly who should be called. They're called peace officers, and shooting at night is certainly disturbing the peace. It also disturbs wildlife officers - a lot.
If they're not doing anything illegal, the police will politely ask them to stop. If they are breaking laws, it will be less polite.0 -
We had next door neighbor when we lived on the lake who rented their house out. One renter decided that week night parties with loud music to all hours of the morning were fine.
The first night it happened, I tried the polite approach and it helped. Was still obnoxious, but they did drop the volume a little.
The second night I tried the polite approach again. It worked for about 10 minutes.
Tried again and it worked for about 5 minutes.
Finally I set up a sprinkler to cover most of my lawn and 3/4 his lawn and turned it on.
He eventually figured out that things that one does on one's own place can adversely affect the enjoyment of those that live nearby.
Never had a problem after that.0 -

I do not have any really close by neighbors. However when they are shooting a 45 its louder than a 22. 0 -
Have you talked to the neighbors about it yet? Maybe they will stop shooting at night if you explain to them how much it bothers your wife after a certain time.

Talk first, be polite,they might not know they are bothering you. Them when an if that fails bring in the law. 0 -
I find it pretty easy to go talk to a neighbor and be nice explaining the issue. It can be done without rancor or confrontation, they may not even know there is an issue. Few states have laws restricting shooting after dark, as it should be. Since these night shoots are bothering your bride it is best to go tell them why and ask them to refrain.
My neighbors dog was a real nuance chasing my free range chickens. On the second trip down the road to ask them to stop him from coming my way they got the point and started restraining the dog.0 -

My neighbor and I both have 100 yards ranges and shoot a lot. I don?t shoot before 6am or after 8pm. I don?t pay attention to my neighbors shooting hours.

yeah one of the guys up this way was doing same thing then some neighbor called the cops about it and they caught the guy with a dead deer out of season, the game commission found 93 deer hanging in the barn and determined he was selling venison to restaurants.

Unfortunately, I have no ideas as to what kind of backstops, etc. the folks near me (a few in each direction) have set up.
And since I can't figure out a backstop I'd feel comfortable with if I lived at my neighbors house instead, I haven't set up my own range here.0
