Sam, from what you've written isn't this the kind of work you did at times, training another country's troops?
I took care of a lady with a broken foot a few months ago. She had put off coming to the ER for a day because she had a meeting with the Army concerning her son. He had just been killed over there a few days earlier. When she told me why she had waited to come I really didn't know what to say to her and her husband.
My BIL did 2 tours over there.

Very sad to keep losing our young sons and daughters, wives and husbands in a place that has an age long proven history of being an unwinnable situation. Why we're still there makes no sense to me at all. 0 -

That is correct.
But I did it after I retired and I refused to train soldiers in muslim country's. That cost me a lot of money and work but there is no way I am going to train muslims, I really don't even like being around them or arabs.
My problem with them is they lie to you all the time, even when telling the truth would be easier. Add that and the fact you cannot trust them, there is no way I want to be around them especially if they are armed.
I really like working with Africans and Eastern Europeans. Africans because they are fun to be around and really want to learn plus you are in Africa which is a beautiful place once yu get out of the city. Eastern Europeans are very friendly too and they really enjoy training.0 -

Way back somewhere is the far far past Afghanistan was a waste of money. The U.S. would build schools and the afghanistan's would tear them up, burn them down, terrorize and or kill the teachers and students and the U.S. would keep doing the same stupid stuff.

There?s a widely held idea of ?just? as in ?just a few million.? Like the military officer who wrote that the $25 million blown on a fancy headquarters nobody used was ?probably not bad in the grand scheme of things.? But those millions add up. To billions.

We had to go to war in Afghanistan. That is where crazy Muslims including Osama bin Laden planned the 9/11 attacks.
Bush should have done the bombing and the invasion like he did, that took what, four weeks?
Then he should have gone to the UN and announced that we would pull out in one year's time. We would rebuild the roads and bridges that were destroyed, we would build a dozen schools, and a dozen new hospitals.
And then, we would be gone. And Bush should have announced that if any Muslim terrorists launched plans against our land again from Afghanistan, we would be back. Case closed.

We did not have to go into Afghanistan.
We chose to do so and did so in a half-assed manner.
We knew where Bin Laden was and chose not to send in the assets those on the ground requested to close the noose. It is not just Monday morning quarterbacking, as there is direct evidence that requested forces were in theater and were not deployed.
Just as Rumsfeld infamously stated (paraphrasing here) that you go to war with the army you have, not necessarily the army you want, he dictated a light footprint in Afghanistan that almost without doubt lead to our inability to intercept Bin Laden and put an end to the issue within the first few months.
Our leadership from Bust through Clinton through Bush through Obama and continuing under Trump have not laid out a path to success and a reasonable exit strategy.
So long a Pakistan is content to provide safe harbor to the Taliban and so long as we remain in fear of Pakistan's nuclear capabilities, we have no path to success.
Our policies have directly and indirectly lead to the deaths of 100s of times more people than were killed on 11 September, 2001. How the hell can we justify what we have done?
The above statement is not in support of the policy of proportional response. It is, however, something I hope every self-proclaimed keyboard commando 'Patriot' considers when thumping their chests.

What can I say to the Majors Family to Help with Their Grieving?
Can I say with ALL HONESTY that the Major was a Patriot, Warrior and a Person that thought that the Mission was worth the Risk-Reward for perhaps changing a demographic? I Pray for the Major's Family That Was So.

He was shot by one of our "allies." Most of the deaths of US troops these days are by our "allies." Guys that we have trained and armed but they were with the Taliban all along.

We shouldn't be over in the Middle East. They don't want our "help", and it's too expensive. Plus, they don't appreciate it nor does it help us in the long run.
We keep building bridges and hospitals and homes for them and they don't ask for them, nor want them. WE are being stupid.
Let the Arabs help themselves. If they can.
However, I have been to Israel, advising their military, and I feel the same way about them.
My opinion of why the middle east is a problem is that the whole area is above sea level.
Don't help any of them--let God sort it out. It's not America's problem.0
