My wife caught some bandits last night.
She watched these guys for a little bit while they played in the sprinklers last night. She said they'd wrassle around for a bit and then one of 'em would stop and grab what she thought was a worm and eat it. Cute little buggers but boy can there tear stuff up.
She says one of the things she enjoys about being on night shift is getting to see all the wildlife that lives in town that most folks have no clue about.

Yeah, they are cute and destructive.
Found out the hard way. Had a coon get up on my roof and did not know until the critter had torn a hole in the roof of a dormer!
I would have needed at least a small crow bar to pull that off, critter did it with paws.0 -

Had three (momma and two Kits) raiding our bird feeder.
Treated it with some HOT sauce and they didn't like it. Heard some strange noises in the night when they tried the new flavor [:D]

I have 23 acres with 18 acres of woods. I've had a coon problem since day 1. I usually get around 10 a year, but they can reproduce pretty much all I dispose of. 2 years ago I had a banner year with 21 DOA. Last year I only caught 2.
The corn is getting ripe enough for them about now, and I'm surrounded by corn fields, so I expect the yard activity to slack off for a while.
Havahart trap and my Colt 1903 are an awesome answer. [:D]
Now if I could just get rid of the damn moles, I would me happy.0 -

Those cute, lovable little rascals destroyed 150 hills of sweet corn in one night, cleaned every peach out of 2 trees and every Bartlett pear out of 3. One bite, drop it.

Had a dinner date last night with my 7yr old grand daughter. She told me about a raccoon tearing up her pitbull twice last week. When I got her home, I asked her mom about it, and saw the dogs nose, chest, and belly.
Mom broke it up both times, and said the coon was almost the size of the dog. She called Animal Control and all they would do is give her a number for a county trapper, that she'll have to pay to catch it.
I told her I would take care of it with a .22 HP. The animal lover Princess overheard me and said, "Poppi, I'll dig a hole for you to bury him in".[:)]0 -

Yep, I give them the same.
I've seen them coons watch their buddies inside a live trap and watching them later on a game camera they seem to know that is why their old buddy is no longer around and avoid the trap until I give them some really juicy cantaloupe as bait. The older ones can get really wise to a live trap when they see their trapped bud's not coming back to rejoin the squad later.
Damn things also carry loads of fleas and are really nasty critters and they don't always wash their food and hands before eating. (like Walt Disney thinks)When fur market crashed the coons are now thick in my neck of the woods. When fur was $20-$50 a hide not many coons around, lots of hunters then.0 -

A friend runs a trap line on our place, gets some, but they keep on a comin'.
Every so often I'll go and take a can of tuna fish, the kind in oil, punch a few holes in it and then with a long nail, attach it to a tree. I'll sit back a ways and wait. It doesn't take too long and here they come. Have shot them trying to get into the tuna can while standing on top of their dead buddies.0
