16ga 2 1/2"

Ordered a case of 1oz #6 for the Lefever nitro (Ithaca) today. I may have the chambers extended someday, maybe not. In the mean time there's no use having a gun around without ammo to shoot it. I love the 16ga, but haven't had one for quite awhile, look forward to shooting this one.

    If you extended the chamber would have handle the extra pressures?

    If you get in to reloading for it MEC sells a adapter plate
    1/4 in thick.The idea was to have a JR press set up for 3 in
    you slip it in and load 2 3/4 with out changing die settings.
    Works great with 16ga Ballistic prod in Minn, sell 2 1/2 hulls and wads. I load a 3/4 oz load with clays fun to shoot and breaks clays and kills doves

    I'll echo dog on Ballistic Products, with exception on hull length. They sell 2 3/4" that need to be trimmed to length. At least the last time I ordered hull 2 3/4" was all they had. Not a big issue with their hull trimmer though.

    I'm not at all familiar with the Leferver Nitro so won't even make a WAG at pressure limits it should be held to. If you contact BP they'll be able to make a safe recommendation. They also have loading manual dedicated to just the 16 gauge and can also e-mail load data for low pressure if you need. This is assuming you are even interested in reloading. If you are I highly recommend their Z16 Field Commander wad. I got impressive patterns out of both my A5 and Husqvarna Mod20.

    Kent has a gamebore line of shotshells that you can get in shorter lengths that are made for older short chambered guns. Bought some 2.5 inch 12 gauge for a Parker double myself.

    I ordered from RST, didn't know Kent also made 2 1/2" stuff, good to know.

    I should reload I guess, but there is only so much time in life and I'll need to invest time to get set up. So, for now, I'll just order what I need. Have an old Ithaca 20ga that takes 2 1/2" shells as well.

    Wow, the shells were at the house today when I got home from work. That's pretty good service.

    About 5 0r 6 years I ordered 500 2 1/2 hulls from BP
    I shoot a very lite load, most of my guns have brown
    barrels, still have the majority of them
